The Finals has been a breath of fresh air in the multiplayer landscape ever since it was fully released in December of last year. Still, there have been some fans needlessly worrying that the game is dying, which is why it’s good news that Season 2 is right around the corner. And The Finals Season 2 adds an exciting new mode players have clamored for since day one of the game’s launch.

The start date for The Finals Season 2 is March 14th. This was recently confirmed by developer Embark Studios on the reachthefinals Twitter account that has been ‘hacked by the CNS’. Before the new chapter comes out, make sure to get 2 Epic outfits and 12 Epic skins available entirely for free.

In addition to confirming the launch day for this week, Embark Studios has also confirmed lots of new content. There are new gadgets and gizmos, there’s a new map, and there’s also a brand new mode fans are especially excited about.

The Finals Season 2 new mode

There’s a brand new mode coming in The Finals Season 2 called Power Shift. This is a mode that will finally let everyone enjoy 5v5 multiplayer mayhem. Right now teams can only consist of three or four, so the addition of 5v5 is fantastic.

Per the developer’s blog post on Steam, Power Shift is ‘an all-new, casual, 5v5 game mode where two teams compete to escort a platform through the arena’ and ‘If interrupted by an enemy team, the platform grinds to a halt — or will switch direction entirely’.

The community has been discussing what they are most excited for over on Reddit, and this new Power Shift mode is the most common reply. One user said ‘5v5 looks mental,’ and fans are hoping there will be modifiers available to make it even more nuts such as all melee.

In addition to the new 5v5 mode, there is also the addition of private matches that have fans really giddy about the upcoming season. This is a feature that has been clamored for since the game’s release in December 2023, and we only have to wait a couple of more days for it to arrive.

As if 5v5 and private matches weren’t enough, Embark Studios are also adding a new ‘glitchy, neon-filled cityscape’ map called SYS$HORIZON, and there will obviously be a bunch of new cosmetics. We can see some of these cosmetics in the embedded trailer on the game’s official Twitter account.

Lastly, there will also be the introduction of the following new gadgets and gizmos:

  • Anti-Gravity Cube (Heavy)
    • Manipulate gravity to send debris, cashout stations, and even contestants toward the sky
  • Dematerializer (Medium)
    • The fastest way from Vault 1 to Cashout B is a straight line. Remove obstacles
      by turning them into passageways
  • Data Reshaper – Medium
    • Alter objects on the fly to turn dangers into harmless decor, and harmless decor into weapons and tools
  • Gateway (Light)
    • Bring your fellow contestants along for the journey by creating portals between locations for fast traversal
