Supermassive Games has announced that Jessie Buckley will star in its upcoming The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me.
The studio made the announcement on the game’s official Twitter account today. Buckley will be taking on the role of Kate Wilder, with the news coming just after an eventful 94th Oscars ceremony. Jessie was up for an award for Best Supporting Actor at that event for her role in The Lost Daughter.
So far, The Dark Pictures Anthology has been no stranger to having a big-name star in each game. Previous entries in the series featured Shawn Ashmore, Will Poulter and Ashley Tisdale in each of the previous three games. However, this may be the first time they’ve had a Oscar nominated actor in a lead role. (It’s worth noting that, while not a Dark Pictures game, Until Dawn featured 2019 Oscar winner Rami Malek. However, he wouldn’t win his Best Actor award until four years after his Until Dawn role.)
There’s still a while before we find out more about The Devil in Me, of course. It was announced as the ‘season finale’ at the end of previous outing, House of Ashes. We know it’ll take place in a mysterious hotel stalked by a notorious slasher. How Jessie Buckley’s Kate Wilder fits into the story remains to be seen, but we’re sure we’ll hear more in the coming months.
Supermassive is going to be pretty busy in the meantime though. Earlier this month, the studio also revealed The Quarry. That won’t be a Dark Pictures game, and instead will be a standalone slasher arriving this June through 2K with its own cast of horror royalty.
Get ready for an unforgettable stay…
