With Armored Core 6 set to release on August 25, 2023 fans have been getting to see more footage from the Dark Souls and Elden Ring developers. Of course, fans of the latter are already comparing the games. However, Armored Core 6 fans are a little divided.
The Armored Core Reddit was rife with discussion about the topic after a user by the name of spongoolio posted a screenshot of two different news pieces, one from GamesRadar and the other from Polygon, that shared completely different perspectives on the upcoming game’s comparability to Elden Ring.
In the thread on Reddit user Rare-Orchid-4131 challenged players to “talk about Armored Core without bringing up Souls games challenge (impossible).” However, even that comment itself sparked debate about whether the comparisons to souls-like games were justified with one user pointing out, “But it has a lot of elements from souls now. It is like Sekiro in this aspect: estus, checkpoints, hard lock-on, telegraphed attacks. From gameplay footage, it does resemble ER with mechas a lot.”

Another user chimed in saying, “FromSoft really got into them with the Souls series. Just discussing bosses, we had some big none AC fights before but nothing with the tough but fair style of souls that we are seeing in the footage now. From is learning new things with every game they make and applying it forward…is that so bad?”
However, fans have also been quick to criticize people’s comparisons of Armored Core and Elden Ring as despite being both developed by FromSoftware user Raz1253 said, “I did enjoy elden ring but I’m so sick of publications comparing it to Elden Ring constantly. THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT GAMES FROM TWO DIFFERENT SERIES.”
While the comparisons may be frustrating for some players it seems like the general conversation surrounding Armored Core 6 will still involve the souls-like genre until more footage is shown of the game.
