Following the recent announcement of the PSVR 2’s highly anticipated product specifications and release date, we can now predict PSVR 2 expected retailers.
Expected to release early 2023: the PSVR 2 is Playstation’s next-generation VR console and is competing with the Meta Quest Pro which will see an October 25th release date.
Expected retailers and where to buy PSVR 2
We don’t yet have any confirmed information to gauge which retailers will be stocking the PSVR 2 upon its early 2023 release, though using information from the original PSVR’s release, we can make some educated predictions that we think are likely to prove accurate.
When the PSVR 2 is ready to go live, the first destination if you’re looking to grab one should be here. Likely to have the most stocked, you’re going to have the most success purchasing through Sony who are guaranteed to be a retailer of the PSVR 2.
Another expected retailer of the PSVR 2 is Best Buy, who are likely to have a wealthy stock of the upcoming VR headset.
Currently exhibiting a PSVR Iron Man and Star Wars bundle on sale, the NewEgg is a reliable retailer of Playstation’s current VR headset. Therefore they are too an expected retailer of the PSVR 2 upon it’s release in 2023.
With a wide variety of PSVR consoles and games, GameStop is another obvious option and expected retailer of the PSVR 2.
Consistently proven as the industry standard for tech products, Amazon is another expected retailer of the PSVR 2.
Can you pre-order the PSVR 2?
PSVR 2 pre orders begin November 15th.
Sony have stated that pre orders will be shipped during the launch week – which is February 22nd 2023. This is roughly a month after the release of the DualSense Edge controller, meaning that you’ll have ample time to grab both after the turn of the year.
Is the PSVR discontinued?
It doesn’t look like the PSVR has been discontinued following the reveal of the PSVR 2. It is likely that production will slow down to make room for the PSVR 2, though at some point following the new headset’s release we could see the old being edged out of production fully.
Is the PSVR 2 backwards compatible?
The PSVR 2 will not be backwards compatible, as confirmed by Hideaki Nishino of PlayStation.
This was done in an effort to preserve the potential of next-generation gaming, as PSVR games will not be optimised for the PSVR 2’s hardware.
It is possible that we see ports of some games though, which would be better optimised for the new headset’s hardware.
