With such a large player base, Epic Games is almost constantly having to deal with criticism from Fortnite fans for one thing or another. A lot of the time the complaints are quite fair, with various bugs or glitches the cause of ire.

The latest criticism has come because of a new Emote released in Fortnite. Sometimes, it can take a while for Epic Games to address an issue, but they have shut this one down quickly!

The devil is in the details

Fortnite is continuing to expand and introduce new content at regular intervals. Chapter 5 Season 2 started with the Olympian boss gods taking over the island. They have now been joined by elemental benders in the Avatar expansion.

A stream of new items constantly keeps the Item Shop fresh, with a new Emote the cause of the latest quibble. The Rebellious Emote, inspired by Doja Cat and her song Paint The Town Red, has been overly censored! The word in question – devil.

As highlighted by u/mystireon on Reddit, “Okay I get censoring curses but Devil?? At this point just make the song an instrumental if you’re [gonna take out] every normally emphasized word in the chorus”.

The section of lyrics used from Paint The Town Red are as follows:

“Mm, she the devil

She a bad lil’ b****, she a rebel

She put her foot to the pedal

It’ll take a whole lot for me to settle”

It did seem overzealous censoring from Epic Games to cut the word devil out of the emote. Especially as the Jam Track you can also purchase leaves the word intact!

Thankfully, the @FortniteStatus account on X (formerly Twitter) was quick to address the issue. “The new Rebellious Emote audio is incorrectly censored. We are fixing this to be consistent with the censoring found in the Paint The Town Red Jam Track.”

We expect the fix to be delivered soon, allowing you to Emote to your heart’s content without listening to a choppily cut track. Now, can Epic Games please be this quick with all issues in the future?
