The upcoming release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox consoles was already exciting enough, but now it has become even more hyped thanks to the tease of a crossover with Microsoft’s flagship IP, Halo. While the crossover hasn’t been confirmed yet, it certainly seems to be happening, and a Helldivers 2 developer has confirmed that Sony helps “decide” collaborations as Halo leaks for PS5.

Sony helps “decide” Helldivers 2 collaborations

On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, was asked “how do you and AH decide collabs”. Baskinator responded, “AH and Sony decide what fits and makes sense together”.

This makes a lot of sense, but it clarifies that Arrowhead alone do not decide what IPs to crossover with. While the developer has previously approved fan suggestions such as Dead Space, Crysis, and Warhammer 40K, it is not entirely up to Arrowhead personnel as they collaborate with Sony who own the Helldivers IP.

So far, the only official crossover we have had for HD2 is Killzone. This happened back towards the end of 2024.

While the crossover between Helldivers 2 and Halo isn’t official, Arrowhead’s newest trailer hyping the release on Xbox teases a crossover by playing Halo 3 ODST Rain. Prominent HD2 leaker, Iron_S1ghts, has also alluded to the crossover, and so too has Halo dataminer, Grunt.api.

Halo leaks for PS5

While Gears of War Reloaded is set to join PS5 the exact same day Helldivers 2 joins Xbox, there are rumors of a lot more Xbox console exclusives joining PlayStation. These include Starfield and the newest Microsoft Flight Simulator, as well as Halo.

According to  Grunt.api and RebsGaming, a “new Halo title with PlayStation compatibility is listed in the [Halo games’] API”. Insider Gaming states that the “same title was seen linked to PlayFab last Monday, a backend platform that helps with cross-platform progression, matchmaking, and unified online services”.

In addition to the above, the API includes a beta title and second new Halo title with PlayStation compatibility, too. While the identity of this Halo title isn’t confirmed, it’s speculated that it could possibly be Project Ekur. This is a multiplayer game using Unreal Engine 5 developed by Certain Affinity, and there is hope that it will be announced at the Halo World Championships 2025 in October alongside a Halo CE Remake.

As of writing, it isn’t official that Halo is coming to PS5 or Helldivers 2. For HD2 the next Warbond should come out roughly August 28th judging by Arrowhead’s typical release schedule, so we could maybe get confirmation of a Halo Warbond by August 21st. As for Halo games joining PS5, Halowaypoint suggests the future of the Halo franchise will be announced at the World Championships in October.
