To say that Helldivers 2 hasn’t been an overnight success would be an understatement. The first game failed to crack more than 7,000 concurrent players at its peak, whereas the sequel regularly has over 200,000 concurrent players at its daily peak and a peak of close to 500,000 players when the game first launched. Millions of players have jumped in to take on the Automatons and Terminids and its traction shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. As Helldivers 2 is only two months old, Arrowhead Game Studios is just getting started and the future looks incredibly bright for both the game and studio.

Because of this, players often think about where the game could head in the future, and one potential is to expand it into larger limited-time modes, similar to what we’ve seen in games such as Fortnite with the iconic 50v50 mode where large groups team up together to take down their opponents in an all-out war. But instead, players are imagining what it would be like to team up with dozens of players to take down thousands of Automatons and Terminids on a huge map, and it is exciting to think about.

In a video posted by Sapphire Hazel on YouTube, scenes from the Sci-Fi movie Edge of Tomorrow are played with the Helldivers 2 soundtrack over it. It is fun to imagine what a live-action Helldivers 2 movie would be like. Yes, Starship Troopers exists but you know a Helldivers 2 movie would be even more chaotic and fun. Or, what about a Helldivers 2 TV show?

But, it wasn’t just the video that was entertaining, which has gained more than 285,000 views since its release, the comments are interesting because it has given many Helldivers the same thoughts, what if there was a large team mode of 10-50 players working together in a huge final battle against either the Terminids or Automatons?

Many Helldivers 2 players are excited at the prospect of a large team mode coming to the game one day, with Mangomongo8103 saying “If we ever get bigger PVE battles like this, that would be insanely chaotic but so fun!” Noble541 thinks increasing the team size to 10 could work well saying “If Helldivers adds a 10 player co-op then it could actually be the game of the year. Actually the game of the decade. Its definitely gonna win GOTY.”

Grimreminder5038 also suggested splitting the mission between three four-play teams working together saying “12 player PVE Raid, split amongst 3 ships with 4 man squads running through hell to retake the main planet would be killer.” Bam902 would like to step things up further by going all the way to 16 players saying “Just saying but when they eventually do like a Super Earth invasion with like 16 player defense missions or something…this will age well.”

Some Helldivers 2 players are thinking about this similarly to I am, with Sparrett wanting up to 40 players on the same map saying “An event idea would be to have a faction get dangerously close to Super Earth, thus prompting a massive deployment of Helldivers into one Area of Operation say like 5 squads of 4 Helldivers or 10 squads equation to 40 players in an area just doing the massive defense operation of all of mankind.” And finally, 3RST-GAMING is just imagining a full open-world MMO at this point saying “Just imagine huge 100 player frontline battlefields.”

It is unlikely that Arrowhead Game Studios will increase the player count for regular missions, as four-player co-op is standard in most games and it works well in terms of being able to get a full team together. But, it could work well as a one-off Major Order to completely eradicate an enemy from the galaxy or as a major story event such as trying to save Super Earth from an invasion.

Whether this ever happens remains to be seen, but for now, you can focus on you and your squad becoming the best four-player team possible. To do this, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can be in the best position to take out the Automatons and Terminids, which is more important than ever as the current Major Order is designed for the Helldivers to fail.
