It has been an exciting month in Helldivers 2 and it is hard to think that so much has happened in the past 20 days. After beginning the month taking an L by failing to complete a Major Order, the Helldivers went on the defense as the Automatons gained the upper hand. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Arrowhead Game Studios gave us a new defense mission which is one of the most fun missions in the game.

After eventually finding our footing and completing some Major Orders, the assault stepped up a gear as the Automatons were completely eradicated from the galaxy. This turned out to be a ploy as the robot army had been secretly scaling its army and they returned with a vengeance. Since then it has been a back-and-forth between the two sides, and now after killing 2 billion Terminids in just over 12 hours, the Helldivers are once again on the defense as the new Major Order calls for the Helldivers to defend 10 planets at once and it seems like we are being purposely set up to fail.

The Helldivers 2 Community Manager Spritz took to Discord to share an update on the current Major Order in more detail than what is given in the game itself saying,

“Dire tidings from the front, Helldivers. In what can only be described as a coordinated act of cowardice, the Automatons have recommenced their offensive while our forces were occupied with liberating E-710 from the Terminid horde. Helldivers now face a defense on two fronts, with the Terminids protesting the recent ‘genocide’ of their ‘sentient species’ while the bot menace continues to exterminate our valued citizens in completely unprovoked attacks across the western galactic rim.

Expert strategists have made grim projections for our forces, estimating that even with a well-coordinated effort, some ground is likely to be lost on both fronts. It is our duty to make sure that both the Automatons and Terminids pay for every inch. Helldivers in the East have already shown a valiant defense on Estanu, and are now repositioning to other planets currently under siege. Martale stands on the brink of liberation, holding the fate of Charon Prime in the balance if it can be captured successfully, while SEAF positions on Lesath and Marfark remain under constant attack.”

While speaking in the Galactic War section of the Discord server, Spitz also revealed that the Major Order has been designed so that players intentionally fail.

“I don’t want to pull back the curtain too much, but this MO is set up so that players are intentionally going to lose ground on one of the two fronts. We’ve poked the Terminid swarm and allowed the Automatons time to regroup, so both factions are pushing hard and attempting to reclaim territory. Defend Events will be frequent and players now have to choose which front they want to fight on, but it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to hold them all. Choose carefully which planets you decide to focus on.”

So far, players haven’t made much progress with the current Major Order, with just one out of ten planets being successfully defended since the event began. As players are spread thin it is possible that we could see multiple planets defended successfully in a short space of time as the event draws to a close. But, things aren’t looking promising so far.
