The Automatons are incredibly intimidating and many see them as the more difficult enemy to deal with in Helldivers 2. The robot army has immense firepower that includes rockets and fire, which is enough to put a dampener on anyone’s day. But, once you spend enough time fighting them, you realize there are many tips and tricks that can help you take them down easily.

U/Megax60 took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to ask that the Devastator head be made larger to make it easier to hit. Despite being large and menacing, most of the Automaton enemies seem to be controlled by the Trooper grunt-like enemies.
Near the top of the Devastator’s armor is the head of a Trooper peaking out. If you can line up your shot, you can take out the Devastator with one well-placed shot. This is also the case for the Berserker, Scout Strider, and even the large Hulk. With it being a purposely designed weak point, making it more accessible to hit would be a major improvement as very few weapons can effectively hit it, especially weapons with higher fire rates such as Assault Rifles and SMGs.
But, just because a weak point exists, it doesn’t make these enemies any less difficult to deal with. Trying to hit the weak point can be frustrating, especially if they’re attacking you. It is fairly easy to line up shots when they’re unaware of your presence, but when you’re trying to evade a horde of them, trying to deal with the majority of them using explosives or Stratagems is usually the best option.
I use the Marksman Rifle when fighting the Automatons, so lining up the shots is fairly straightforward due to the scope being accurate, unlike some other weapons. Weapons such as the SMG will struggle with this, so if you want to take them out like this, try the single shot Marksman Rifle instead.
With the Escalation of Freedom update on the horizon, this marks the first major update that Helldivers 2 has seen in the six months it has been released, it looks like Arrowhead Game Studios is beginning to add many quality-of-life changes to keep the game fresh. This will add new enemies, planets, missions, and more to the game, which is a positive sign for the future of the game.
The developers also listen to the community, so there is a chance we could see weak points become easier to hit in a future update. Until then, all you can do is optimize your loadout to give you the best chance at being able to take down your enemies.
