Helldivers 2 fans have plenty to look forward to very soon. The new Control Group Warbond is imminent, and there is the possibility we might get an update as patches typically drop the same week as new Warbonds. In addition, we only have to wait just slightly over a month for Super Earth soldiers from Xbox to join the battlefield. When Microsoft recruits do join the fight for democracy, they may be immediately tested against a bunch of powerful new cultists as Arrowhead has just teased “we’re not done” with the Illuminate in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 dev teases “we’re not done” with the Illuminate
On the official Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead personnel frequently communicate with players. While they can’t spoil exactly what Arrowhead is working on behind-the-scenes, they can at least tease what’s to come.
In response to a user asking, “More squid stuff is coming, right?”, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, teased, “Yeah, it’s safe to say we’re not done there”. The community manager added, “There are lots more stories to tell everywhere in the Galactic War”.
While Arrowhead personnel can’t reveal the Illuminate’s schemes, fortunately recent leaks have uncovered plans for the squids along with an army of new enemies. Recently, Iron_S1ghts leaked Gravitational Monoliths for the Illuminate, and these will be “used to ‘target’ other planets, manipulating their gravitational pull in some way”.
As for new enemies, there are host of fresh-faced Cultists revealed on Iron_S1ghts’ Astral Rift Discord. One of the Cultists is called Zealot, and this can “summon a wide range of illuminate units”. In addition, it’s said that “Their main weapon is a whip charged with some sort of ‘void’ energy,” and “They can open a temporary volatile warp gate, which arcs out lightning”.
Another leaked Cultist is The Outcast. It has two variants, and “The Outcast acts as a sniper and a close-range assassin,” with it “able to teleport into battle dual wielding blades or staying at a long range and sniping”. As if this wasn’t intimidating enough, “The Outcast can ‘phase’ to move quickly in battle, and lunge at players”.
There’s also leaks claiming the return of the Illusionist from HD1, and there’s also an enemy called The Observer which “patrols around the map looking for divers, alerting his illuminate friends if he ever finds one”. Lastly, there’s also the Sentinel, which is a weaker alternative to The Harvester, but with faster movement and more powerful abilities such as firing a homing projectile called a “deathball” at long ranges. Unlike The Outcast, Zealot, and returning Illusionist, Iron_S1ghts claims that The Observer and Sentinel may have been scrapped.
Remember that none of these leaks are official as of writing. We also don’t know when any of the Cultists may join the Illuminate in the battle against Super Earth soldiers.
