Helldivers 2 has been one of the best games of the year, and recently Arrowhead has brought back swarms of players who had previously deserted the battlefield. While HD2 has been one of the biggest success stories of the year, there was controversy with the whole PSN debacle. Now the Helldivers 2 developer is hopeful there will not be similar backlash over EULA changes which have some fans suspicious of Sony.

There is a lot for HD2 players to anticipate. New armor has leaked presumably for Liberty Day, and it’s believed that the arrival of the Illuminate is close. In addition, the Democracy Space Station is under construction, and it will add a new element to the multiplayer experience.

We cannot wait for the completion of the DSS and the arrival of Liberty Day, but, for right now, some players are suspect over changes to the game’s EULA. Similar to the PSN debacle, these changes are not the fault of Arrowhead, but the Helldivers 2 community manager has responded.

Helldivers 2 changes to EULA

On the Helldivers subreddit, fans have reported changes to the HD2 EULA on Steam. Reddit user Additional_Pin_12 has highlighted old and new changes in their post.

The biggest difference is that the old EULA reportedly said “The license grant in this section is only effective after the SIE-authorized release date of the Software. Any rights in the Software not explicitly granted to you in this license are reserved by SIE, including rights to all intellectual property”.

Meanwhile, the new EULA reportedly says, “beta Software (which may not work properly or at all) is licensed only for the beta period and we can end the beta or stop you accessing at any time. Any rights in the Software not explicitly granted to you in this license are reserved by SIE”.

There is a lot of negative reaction to the above changes. Some of the replies say this is “Sony drama 2: corporate boogaloo,” meanwhile, another comment says “I have a feeling this new EULA is being made in preparation for some new shady shenanigans that Sony wants to mess around with”.

On the Helldivers Discord, community manager, Twinbeard, has responded to discussions about the EULA changes. Twinbeard was asked if he fears this could lead to backlash, and the community manager said, “Hopefully not (backlash). There’s no practical change at all”.

The community manager explained, “AFAIK the amended EULA is just a clarification for one or some states in the US where it’s required by law to mention the distinction between a license to play a game through Steam rather than owning it. Nothing to do with HD2, Arrowhead or Sony AFAIK”.

Twinbeard also said, “We’re very aware of the potential risk of this escalating due to ye ole Accountgate (TM), and we’re monitoring it. If things flare up we can always make an announcement. Again though, nothing’s changed in, for or with the game AFAIK”.
