Gamers are still in love with the satisfying gameplay of Helldivers 2, almost making fans forget the series’ origins as a twin-stick shooter. Thankfully, that’s about to change, as a recent leak has seemingly confirmed the return of the original costumes from this older PSN classic.
As a live-service shooter, Arrowhead’s shooter has been a victim of plenty of leaks, though that’s hardly stopped its momentum. Dataminers have already uncovered plans for a new Warbond and faction, which should please fans who want more options. Leaks have also teased new drivable vehicles for the game, though we’ll have to wait and see if they happen.
Helldivers 2 brings back the first game’s armor
A post from the Helldivers 2 subreddit uncovered these original armor designs in the sequel, showing plans to bring these cosmetics to the sequel. Considering how Arrowhead worked on both games, seeing the Federation’s original look updated for this more modern sequel feels right. The post claims that these cosmetics will be released on “Federation Day,” which takes place on October 26 so they are coming out soon.
The Reddit post also comes with a description that references some of the first game’s enemy factions. It reads as follows: “This classic armor set is recognized by every citizen: worn by the heroic Helldivers who battled and forever defeated the Terminids, Cyborgs, and Illuminate in the First Galactic War.”
Seeing references to the older game will put a smile on the face of those who signed up for Super Earth’s mission back in 2015. It is crazy to think that this twin-stick shooter from the PS3 and PS4 era would have a sequel that makes this much of an impact. Considering how many more updates are coming to the game, this shooter will go down in history as one of the generation’s best titles.
Is more nostalgia coming?
Considering how nostalgia-driven modern media has become, we’re surprised to see Arrowhead wait this long to add these armors to Helldivers 2. The sequel does keep the first game’s tongue-in-cheek nature in regards to how evil Super Earth is, but it’s been limited to that thus far.
We saw how powerful everyone’s nostalgia was for Sony’s acclaimed Astro Bot platformer, with references to characters from every corner of PlayStation’s past. Seeing all of these iconic heroes and villains even led to players buying some of these older titles, showing how much love there is for PlayStation properties.
Sadly, Sony seems to be getting the wrong nostalgia message from this, as the company is releasing a Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster for some reason. The original game still looks great and has a 60fps patch on PS5, so that doesn’t make any sense.
