Helldivers 2 devs “110% agree” on cross-progression, but there’s a catch

Helldivers 2 has been one of the best games of 2024, and Arrowhead are always looking for ways to make it better. A feature fans have desired since day one of the game’s launch has been the ability to transfer progress from console to PC and vice versa. Arrowhead “110% agree” with fans wanting cross-progression in Helldivers 2, but it’s something that may not materialize soon, if ever.

There is a lot set to be added to HD2. We know the Illuminate are on the way, and leaks have revealed “all Illuminate objectives” for when they invade. In addition to the third faction, Arrowhead’s CCO has said vehicles will be “added soon”, and the developer is looking to add more customization options, although there will never be the option to run around the battlefield capeless.

While the Illuminate, vehicles, and more customization is stuff to anticipate, Arrowhead are also aware of the demand for cross-progression, but there’s still no ETA on when it will arrive in Helldivers 2.

There is crossplay in Helldivers 2 meaning players on PC and PS5 can team up, but there is no cross-progression. This is unfortunate as, for example, it means someone on PS5 who later buys HD2 on PC cannot carry over all of their warbonds and progress to Steam.

This is such a situation recently brought up on the Helldivers Discord. On Arrowhead’s official social channel, community manager, Twinbeard, was asked, “do you guys [Arrowhead] plan to add cross progression to PC in the near future?”.

As for why they were asking, the user explained, “I’m a level 150 on PS5 with 677 hours and it’s going to suck starting over” on PC.

In response, Twinbeard informed the community that there is “No news on cross progression AFAIK, but yes, that would be awesome if/when we get there, I 110 % agree”. He also stated “AFAIK, no one’s ruling CP out, it’s just that there’s no new info on it ATM”.

Aside from cross-progression, the fan also asked if Arrowhead would consider changing the store format to make “all the armors that go through rotation [become] accessible for purchase whenever”.

To this suggestion, Twinbeard explained, “What stuff is being rotated and available where is a constant work in progress and subject to change, so not ruling anything out in terms of availability. Still, having everything available at all times might take away some of the curiousness and anticipation”.

While it’s good that Arrowhead are not ruling cross-progression out or are opposed against the idea, the unfortunate catch is that there’s still no ETA on when, or even if, it will definitely arrive. It would be a welcomed addition, but definitely don’t expect it anytime soon.
