Helldivers 2 fans have a lot of features they would love to see implemented in the game. Customization is something fans desperately want to see Arrowhead expand upon, and an idea some fans have suggested is an on/off toggle to remove capes. Unfortunately, despite The Incredibles’ Edna explaining why capes are bad, Arrowhead has used a comparison to Batman to explain why a capeless option will never be added to Helldivers 2.

There is a lot for the HD2 community to anticipate. We’ve been waiting all year long for the Illuminate to arrive, and a new “Special Event” leak possibly teases their arrival, meanwhile, files added to Steam seem to suggest their invasion is imminent. As for the further future, Arrowhead is thinking about crossovers, and they are also looking to add vehicles.

In addition to vehicles and crossovers, Arrowhead are exploring options for better customization. While ideas are being explored, don’t get your hopes up for one day being able to traverse the Helldivers 2 battlefield without a cape.

Arrowhead explains why capeless option will not be added in Helldivers 2

On the official Helldivers subreddit, OP OHMYGODJC shared a screenshot of an interaction with the HD2 player support team. The user asked Arrowhead’s support team when it will be possible to take off the cape. In asking, the OP pointed out that it’s something that has been achieved through mods.

If you desire the ability to remove your cape, then the unfortunate news is that the support team responded, “There are no plans to allow players to go around capeless, nor will there ever be”.

As for why a capeless option will never be added, the support team explained, “It would simply not be believable in terms of in-game lore that Helldivers would be allowed to take off their capes”. To further illustrate their point, the support team said, “It would be like asking the developers of a Batman game to make Batman go around without his mask”.

The support team’s response said PC players are “free to use mods to go around capeless like an anti-democrat, but do not expect us to ever do that”. You can find the message in the embedded Reddit post below:

Depending on which side of the fence you sit, the response is either bad news or good news. For lore reasons, it makes sense for Arrowhead to never implement the option, but, at the same time, it’s disappointing for console players who do not have access to mods.
