Following Sony’s announcement that all Helldivers 2 players would need to link a PSN account to Steam to keep playing, the PC community decided to fight back, especially after the game was removed from Steam for players in over 170 countries. Sony ended up reversing its decision, but not before the game received widespread criticism online, as well as being mass review bombed.

Helldivers 2 received close to 400,000 negative reviews, but now that the decision has been reversed, players are flooding the game with positive reviews to undo some of the damage that was done.

On May 6th, the day that Sony backtracked on its decision, Helldivers 2 received over 207,000 positive reviews on Steam. 143,000 of these were reviews that were previously negative being edited and made positive, while the remaining 64,000 were new positive reviews.

At its peak during the controversy, Helldivers 2 had 389,000 negative reviews, making it the most negatively reviewed paid game in Steam’s history. As of writing, it still is in the number 1 spot, but it is now only 9,000 reviews away from dropping down to number 2 as it goes below Call of Duty. The game has also begun to regain its Steam score, now sitting at 62%. It is still a far cry from the approximately 85% it at was before the controversy, but it shows the damage is being undone. So, if you had previously left a negative review to combat the PSN announcement, be sure to switch it back as its Steam score is important when it comes to whether a player purchases the game.

With the controversy largely over, although there is still no news as to when the game will be relisted back onto the 170 countries it was removed from, it is now time to look towards the current Major Order. After becoming resistant to Termicide, the Terminids have become a “greater threat than ever before,” so that only means one thing, they need to be liberated. With the new Polar Patriots Warbond hitting the game later this week, it is a great time to check out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can build the perfect loadout to deal with the Terminid army.
