Arrowhead is aiming to transform Helldivers 2 into an eventual Helldivers 3 with a host of massive updates coming to the title before the studio moves onto its next game. Alongside the addition of new weapon customisation options, players will, one day, be able to change the look of their favouirte armour sets with the arrival of new skins.
Following an earlier leak of upcoming weapons skins, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is also working on the addition of armour skins. While each armour piece right now has their own unique looks, players will be able to apply basic skins to their virtual threads that don’t break the game’s rules for customisation.
Helldivers 2 armour skins leak
Shown off by prominent leaker IronS1ghts, there are currently four armour skins available inside Helldivers 2 game files. These are the exact same skins as were leaked for the upcoming weapon customisation suite: Forest, Desert, Arctic and Venus.
Currently, dataminers going through the game’s files can only apply skins to one armour set: the B-01 Tactical Armour. However, on release, players should be able to apply skins to any armour piece in the game, although it’s not known if there will be restrictions in place for crossover items, such as the recently released Killzone weapons and armour.
IronS1ghts reveals the game houses an “adaptive textures” system that allows customisation to use the same skins across guns and armour, likely cutting down on the work needed to add new skins into the game. This means that if Helldivers 2 adds a rainbow skin for weapons, it should also be available for armour.
Of course, none of these systems are announced for the game, although comments from CEO Johan Pilestedt have essentially confirmed the arrival of weapon customisation in the future. However, with additions like urban environments, vehicles and the Illuminate constantly leaking before their big arrival in the game last December, it’s likely that most HD2 leaks will arrive in the game at some point.
