Over the past seven years, Fortnite has gone through drastic changes. At first, it was a PvE survival game, which then became a king of the battle royale genre. In 2024, Fortnite is a metaverse game that brings hundreds of different worlds together. Due to this, it’s no surprise that its developer keeps expanding it almost every week.

Unfortunately, some rumored Fortnite features won’t come out soon. Tim Sweeney, Epic Games’ CEO, recently confirmed that the company has no plans to release an exciting feature that would make the game different.

Fortnite in VR is just a pipe dream

Fortnite looks nothing like the game from 2017. Not only has Epic added many new modes, but the interface of the game has changed, as well as its art style. Even the battle royale mode has received numerous changes, from new islands and weapons to new gameplay mechanics, such as sprinting and rebooting.

Despite all of these changes and additions, it doesn’t seem that Fortnite will add support for Virtual Reality (VR) just yet. Tim Sweeney revealed that Epic Games has no plans for this feature, which is unfortunate for players who’ve been looking forward to it. Over the past few years, there have been rumors about VR coming to Fortnite, but they were recently shut down.

“No plans currently,” Sweeney responded to an X (formerly Twitter) user who asked about Fortnite coming to a VR platform. “For it to be successful we’d need a lot of players across all platforms spending a lot of their time on islands whose locomotion mechanics wouldn’t have VR players barfing. We’ve gone from 0 to 1 such popular mechanics but it’s not a critical mass yet.”

While we may not get support for VR anytime soon, the good news is that Fortnite’s first-person mode is likely still in development. According to leakers, Epic has worked on this mode for almost two years, and we might get it with Chapter 6. There is no doubt that playing the popular game in VR would be exciting, but the first-person mode seems to be a decent compromise, and many players will likely enjoy it.
