It seems whispers that Fortnite will eventually be getting a first person mode just won’t slow down, as a new set of screenshots purporting to show just that have appeared online.

The screens were posted to the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit today, but don’t cite any other source, so take them with a pinch of salt. However, they do appear to show what the the Unreal-engine powered shooter would look like if viewed in first person, with weapons such as the Twin Mag SMG and the Red-Eye Assault Rifle. According to one of the leakers, who goes by the name of Additional_Example51, the new mode is set to arrive in the battle royale next season.

Rumours of a first person mode coming to Fortnite have been swirling for a long time, in fact as far back as January of this year, prominent Fortnite fan accounts such as Shiina had claimed that Epic Games added files to the game for a first person mode. They later claimed the mode would be arriving later this year. A bug that was found that gave hungry fans more of an idea of what an FPS mode could look like too a few days later, but we’re now halfway through the year and there’s still been no official confirmation from Epic.

A first person mode wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility, however. The game runs on the Unreal engine, of course, and Epic Games have a long history in the first person shooter genre prior to the massive success of Fortnite. It’s not clear yet how a first person mode, should one indeed arrive, will work, or if any hypothetical first person mode would have to separate those playing in third person and first person.

Still, Fortnite is no stranger to adding new modes and features. And fans are always thinking of new ones of their own, such as a recent call to give a new twist to the game’s Zero Build mode. We’ll let you know should Epic officially announce a first person mode for Fortnite. In the meantime, it appears that Fortnite will soon be welcoming a crossover with The Elder Scrolls Online, if other recent leaks are anything to go by.
