There are currently dozens of planets available to play on in Helldivers 2, with hundreds more still unlocked as the Galactic War progresses. Unfortunately, many of them feel similar to each other and there isn’t much reason to prefer one over the other. This new suggestion could add a sense of uniqueness to each planet and give players a reason to spread democracy across every planet in the galaxy.
U/Logical-Web5270 took to Reddit to suggest that each planet should feature a native enemy to make it more unique saying “It would make sense that a lot of the planets would have their own little critters that do various things on their own worlds. So if we think of a world like Hellmire it would have a unique enemy type that’s adapted to the surroundings and is probably hostile to both the Helldivers and the Bugs. Could be big enough that it could kill a charger, or maybe swarms of small fast birds that use bile titans as landing points. Something. I think this would give a lot of the worlds more character, and lead to some interesting encounters.”
Planets in Helldivers 2 all have set weather types, such as blizzards, ion storms, and fire tornados, and more recently they were given unique plant life that is native to certain planets. This new suggestion would be the natural next step in giving each planet more uniqueness rather than just being a soulless battleground to fight against the Automatons and Terminids.
IPs such as Star Wars have shown that fans can become emotionally attached to a planet, with Coruscant, Tattooine, and Bespin being among the most notable in the franchise. In Star Wars, the Ewoks are native to the planet Endor and were featured in Return of the Jedi. This led to the creatures becoming beloved and heavily associated with the franchise. Bringing unique wildlife and enemies to Helldivers 2 would add a vibrant and realistic feel to the planets, rather than just being terrain to do battle in.
With 53 Sectors and 253 planets in Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios will need to find a way to keep each one fresh rather than just repeating planets under a different name, otherwise the game will become stale and give players less incentive to play on other planets except the one with their preferred weather effect. But, players need to branch out and check out other planets because the latest Major Order could be one of the most important that we’ve ever seen.
Currently, players have been tasked with “splitting the Automaton forces in two” by preventing them from attacking the Andromeda Sector, which could lead to new planets being unlocked.
