Following a disappointing month, it is now time to look to September and what is next for Helldivers 2 as Arrowhead Game Studios focuses on its 60-day roadmap to fix the issues caused by the Escalation of Freedom update. With the player count at an all-time low, it does feel like Arrowhead’s back is against the wall and they need to deliver over the coming months to ensure Helldivers 2 remains successful over the coming years.

The Helldivers 2 Community Manager Twin Beard recently took to Discord to answer questions from players regarding the future of the game. Recently, the Helldivers 2 developers revealed that they have created a 60-day roadmap following the backlash from the Escalation of Freedom update.

This Helldivers 2 roadmap will see the team fix many of the issues plaguing the game as well as rebalance the weapons and add new quality-of-life features. So far, we have seen one update and a hotfix to fix an issue caused by the 01.001.004 update. But, don’t expect another large update anytime soon, with Twin Beard saying,

“Generally, I think it’s better to not promise more than you can live up to. Secondly, the big patch in early summer, the hype leading up to it, and downplaying it, when I said that we didn’t expect it to be that big, it grew substantially over time, at which point I thought it better to tease that it was actually pretty big,” he said when discussing the recent Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update. “There is no big patch coming soon – among other things due to us working both on the 60-day plan and on other content. There might be smaller things, and larger stuff is coming, only it will take some time.”

While it is disappointing that we won’t see a large update any time soon, especially considering the Escalation of Freedom update caused so many issues, it does make sense to release smaller ones to address individual problems to ensure that the fix is made and well received before moving on. Some of the most pressing issues relating to nerfs, after the Escalation of Freedom patch nerfed some of the most popular weapons, such as the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun. The good news, Twin Beard has also confirmed that the next update will be focused on buffs. Until then, I highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can figure out the ideal loadout to take out the Automatons and Terminids.
