To say the reception to Diablo 4’s latest patch has been frosty is an understatement, and now fans are voicing their displeasure by review bombing the game on Metacritic.

At the time of writing, the game’s user score has now dropped to a low of 4.9 less than 24 hours after the games pre-Season 1 patch dropped last night, with players voicing major displeasure at the changes that have been introduced. Many 1 and 0 reviews have flooded in over the last few hours, with comments such as “Worst patch ever in the history of any video game” and “Patch 1.1 makes me want to uninstall.”

Users of the Diablo 4 subreddit aren’t offering much sympathy either, with many calling for the score to be lowered even further. “Get it lower,” says Meowjoker. “Maybe then the point will go through their thick skulls.” And as Straight-East-993 points out “People need to leave their feedback and reviews, where it hurts Blizzard’s pockets. Reddit is not the place, encourage everyone to go to Metacritic and make your voice heard. Reviews are used by consumers to inform their purchase decision, not Reddit.”

Review bombing has been a contentious topic in the gaming industry of late, with sites such as Metacritic and Steam taking action against many users posting low reviews for titles for a range of often contentious reasons. There’s also been thwarted attempts at trying to mobilise review bomb campaigns for games that aren’t out yet such as Starfield. However, with more games moving to a live service model like Diablo that can change dramatically between patches, players are finding few alternative ways to indicate their displeasure at changes after the game’s initial sales have already taken place.

There’s been a lot of ire aimed at this latest patch, however. From unhappiness to changes with the Sorcerer class, to complaints that the end game is now a slog as well as calls for a Season 1 boycott, it’s clear that the Diablo 4 fanbase aren’t very happy. Will Blizzard be able to quell the growing angry mob in its campfire chat scheduled for tomorrow? We’ll have to wait and see.
