Like in many Souls-likes, Black Myth Wukong is teeming with NPCs, each with curious stories that are well worth exploring. Among them is Xu Dog, also knows the Ginger Wolf, that you’ll come across in Chapter 2. He comes with his very own quest line in Chapter 2 that takes you through the village and ends with you unlocking Celestial Medicines. Here’s everything you need to know to complete the Ginger Wolf, Xu Dog quest in Black Myth Wukong.

Ginger Wolf, Xu Dog’s first location

To find Xu Dog and complete his quest line, you will need to do the following:

  • Find Xu Dog below the village in Chapter 2.
  • Head to the Village Entrance Wayshrine then drop into the chasms.
  • Follow the path into a cave-like area underneath to find the Ginger Wolf.
  • Speak to him and you’ll get a quest that tasks you with getting a recipe from a nearby frog.

This takes you to a frog boss located in a shallow body of water directly opposite the Ginger Wolf. This boss is not too difficult. Its main moves include:

  • Tongue lash – Swipes its tongue left, right, and left again. Roll away from the tongue to avoid it.
  • Rear leg attack – Kicks its rear legs if you are behind it.
  • Body slam – Hops over to you and belly slams.

These are the key moves to watch out for. There’s also a storm move that requires you to keep moving and avoid the hazards. After you defeat the boss, you’ll acquire a recipe, which you can take back to the Ginger Wolf. He’ll be ecstatic and reward you with a craftable potion at the shrine. He will then say he’s off to find a furnace.

Xu Dog’s second location

You won’t come across Xu Dog again until quite a lot later. Continue the main Chapter 2 story line in, clearing your way through the village, the Crouching Tiger Temple, and then Windrest. At the end of Windrest, you’ll eventually come to the basin. This desert area will have a boss called the Stone Vanguard. When defeated, the boss will give you a key item called the Sterness of Stone.

The Sterness of Stone allows you to open up the doors and pedestals you encounter in the village and the Crouching Tiger Temple. Next to the Village main boss is a large metal door. At the top of the Crouching Tiger Temple, you’ll find a pedestal at the tallest point of the temple. Interacting with it and using the Sterness of Stone will open a path that lead to a second area.

The best way to find Xu Dog is via the Crouching Tiger Temple, as it goes straight down. At the bottom of the temple, you’ll find a sandy slope to slide down. From there, go right to find Xu Dog hiding behind some vases near a furnace. Talk to him to complete his quest line and unlock Celestial Medicines.
