How to dive in Tears of the Kingdom? Nothing quite beats a cinematic swan dive off of a high ledge and watching Link plunge rather gracefully into a body of water below. Fortunately, the mechanic returns in TotK, and if anything plays a far more important role given the glut of Sky Islands peppering the skies above Hyrule.

We’ll walk you through how to dive in Tears of the Kingdom. Along with diving, it’s also worth getting to grips with how Tears of the Kingdom fall damage works and checking out our Tears of the Kingdom Sky Islands explainer guide before you go flinging Link off any high places.

How do you dive in Tears of the Kingdom?

To perform a dive in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll want to hit the X button (or the B button if you’ve switched up the controls) while running toward the edge of a high ledge. While the exact height is debatable, something bigger than Link should do. If done correctly, Link should perform a diving motion where he’ll point his arms straight down into the water below.

Additionally, when Link leaps from one of the floating Sky Islands to a lower area, you can hold down the R button to shift his body into the same position, which allows for diving from greater heights.

While it doesn’t seem like Link can dive while swimming in water in Tears of the Kingdom, you can dip below the surface by jumping from a higher area. In Breath of the Wild, Link would get a prompt to directly dive into a water level when standing on a higher ledge, and this seems to be the case yet again in Tears of the Kingdom.
