There are a total of 24 powers to find and unlock in Starfield. To help you get a sense of what’s available in the game, here’s a Starfield powers list and a brief primer on how to unlock them. We used a majority of these during our playthrough for our extensive Starfield review.
For a breakdown of how to get the first power, check out how to follow distortions on the scanner in the Starfield into the Unknown main quest. You may also want to take a look at the Starfield factions, to see who’ll be running into during your voyage across the Settled Systems.
How to unlock powers in Starfield
To unlock powers in Starfield, you’ll need to visit temples scattered across space. Each one contains a new power. After each entering each temple, float towards the shimmering clusters of light to activate spinning rings then go through the portal to acquire the power. You’ll come across the first one, Temple Eta, as part of the Into the Unknown main story quest. The mission takes you to Procyon III to track down a strange anomaly by tracking distortions on your scanner.
Following this first power mission, collect artifacts and talk to Vladimir after each one, either on The Eye in orbit above Jemison or down at The Lodge in New Atlantis in the Alpha Centauri System. He’ll point you in the direction of a new temple. The location of temples is randomized across a set of planets and won’t be the same for all players.
How to equip powers in Starfield
Once you’ve unlocked your first power, open the Data Menu (tab on PC), and select the top of the dial marked Powers. Hover the power you want to use, then simply click on it to equip it. The power will turn blue to confirm it’s active.
You can also assign powers to the dial menu (brought up by tapping Q on the game screen on PC), by hovering over a power, tapping the favourite button (B on PC), and choosing a slot.
