Resident Evil 4 Remake – How to Beat Verdugo

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Verdugo ambushes Leon

Verdugo is a true menace in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Soaking up colossal amounts of damage, dishing it out in turn and doing his best xenomorph impression by stalking you through the vents.

Thankfully, the area you fight him in is as advantageous to you as it is to him. While the tight corridors lead to a real claustrophobic chase, they are also your secret weapon. Luring Verdugo into the liquid nitrogen showers dotted around the arena will freeze the creeping beastie and allow you to get some serious shots in.

Lure Verdugo close to one of the showers, activate it – while being sure not to get caught inside yourself – and when Verdugo passes through, he will be temporarily stunned and take more damage from every shot. Melee Verdugo while he is in this state, and then unload with everything you have. Headshots with the Riot Gun, Stingray and Broken Butterfly are particularly useful at taking out huge chunks of his health at this point.

It’s inadvisable to try and fight Verdugo head-on without the aid of the showers, but it can be worth it to squeeze off a few shots here and there. If you have a healthy supply of flash grenades, they can be useful in stunning Verdugo and allowing for a quick getaway or a couple of free hits.

Whenever Verdugo isn’t in plain sight, watch out for his barbed tail bursting through the vents and attacking you. Use an action command when prompted to avoid the damage.

Verdugo – Flee Or Fight

Elevator arrives in time to make an escape

It’s important to note that you don’t actually have to kill Verdugo to progress in Resident Evil 4 Remake. While the fight itself is unavoidable, all you have to do is survive long enough for the elevator to arrive.

If you’re low on ammo or health, it can be better simply to outlast Verdugo and take the chance to escape when it presents itself.

However, killing Verdugo does have a serious upside, as he will drop the gold Monocle on death. This item can be sold to the merchant for a whopping 30,000 pesetas.

Whatever your choice, there is no difference to Resident Evil 4 Remake as a whole, as Verdugo will not reappear after this point even if he is left alive. So pick whatever option seems best to you, and you’ll soon see the last of this monster regardless.
