Can’t figure out how to unlock the Engineer archetype in Remnant 2? Aside from the starting archetypes, you can unlock certain secret archetypes hidden away in some of the game’s biomes, and one of these is the elusive engineer. It’s a hard one to find, even if you know about it, so you probably won’t be stumbling across it. That’s why we’re here to help.

How do you unlock the Engineer archetype in Remnant 2?
To unlock the Engineer archetype, you need to find an item called the Alien Device in N’Erud. If you’ve been to N’Erud, you’ll already know about the toxic fog that hangs in certain areas of the map, that makes you vomit when you spend too much time in it. Unfortunately, to unlock the Engineer archetype, you’ll have to venture in there.
Before you go running into the fog, be aware that this is incredibly difficult to find without the Explorer’s Fortune Hunter skill. This skill shows the location of loot and rare items in a 40m radius, letting you see through the fog to find exactly where the Alien Device is located. The spawn location of the Alien Device is random, meaning it’s different for every player. However, we do know that it always spawns in the second overworld location you visit in your playthrough. For us, this was Timeless Horizon, but it might be something different in your game. Once you’re there, head around the edge of the map, being careful not to go into the fog. If you’re using the Explorer, use Fortune Hunter to search for items in the distance. Otherwise, just look out for a small platform in the fog.
Once you find it, head into the fog. You’ll pause to start vomiting, but as soon as this finishes, sprint forwards and jump over a small gap onto the platform. You’ll find a dead Engineer which you can loot for the Technician armour set. Once you’ve got this, jump down onto a small platform below the one you’re currently on. Here, you’ll find the Alien Device. If you’re not quick, you’ll die from the fog and will have to come back, so don’t stand around.
Once you’ve got the Alien Device, bring it to Wallace in Ward 13. Pay him 10 Lumenite Crystals and 1000 scrap, and he’ll turn the Alien Device into the Drzyr Caliper. This engram will allow you to access the Engineer’s skills, and once you’ve unlocked it, you’ll be able to select the Engineer as a starting archetype.
