How To Get A Rank In Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft asks you to tick two checkboxes before you get placed into a rank. The first, as mentioned above, is to get to level 50. The second one is to play ten placement games after you’ve completed the previous prerequisite. Many of you might wonder why you must get into the hassle of playing placement matches before you’re awarded a rank. Here’s why:

Why Play Placement Games

Placement games are a way to calibrate your rank in the game. When you’re new to Siege, the game doesn’t know your true rank; you could either be a fresh Copper 5 or a Champion using a smurf account. Therefore, the ten placement matches have an algorithm behind them that lets the game know where you really lie in Siege’s rank system.

That said, it is suggested you put in your utmost effort in them since they’re the easiest way to get a higher rank in the game right from the start.

Other Prerequisites You Should Be Familiar About

Rainbow Six Siege is a game where generally the expectations from you are higher than normal, even as a novice. While not all of these Pre-reqs are mandatory, it is always a nice idea to get a good grasp on some of them so that the community of Siege doesn’t make you their scapegoat.

Here are some of the things the R6S community would appreciate if you went through the effort of learning them all:

  1. Increase Your Map Knowledge

You don’t want to jump into ranked without knowing your way around the map. While learning off-angles is always handy, having the fundamental knowledge of every ranked map is essential to perform well in the game. Imagine you’re in a 1v1 clutch, and your teammate gives you a callout about where the last person is, but you don’t know the location because you haven’t learned the map.

So while you’re trying to get your way to level 50, try to get a hold of all the maps. The best way to do this is by playing the Unranked mode instead of the Casual mode since it has the same rules and map pools as the Ranked mode.

  1. Learn How To Quick Peek

Quick Peek is a great way to gather information, especially if you’re out of drones and aren’t sure if an enemy is waiting for you in a particular corner. While it isn’t mandatory, having this tool under your belt can sometimes come in handy in saving your time, so we recommend you take out the time to learn it.

Quick Peeking at first may feel quite overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, it will definitely help you perform better throughout your grind to the top in Siege. If you don’t know how to quick peek, just follow these key combinations:

Quick peek to the right: E + D → E + A

Quick peek to the left:   Q + A → Q + D

The first half of these combinations E+D/Q+A allow you to peek a certain angle, and the other half E+A/Q+D allow you to recenter yourself before the enemy can shoot at you. You can then change your position a little bit and re-peek since there’s a high likelihood that your opponent may pre-fire you at the same spot, so changing your angle may just throw them off.

Note: The key binds mentioned above are the default PC key binds in Rainbow Six Siege.

  1. Know Your Role

To give out your best performances in any match, it is essential you master a role and keep spamming it. When you’re grinding to reach level 50 in the game, halfway through it, you’ll be able to get a rough idea of which Operators you feel more comfortable playing. For example, if you’re into playing Hard Breachers, you’re probably leaning toward being a support player.

Similarly, if you have an eye for kills, you can try being the fragger for your team. If you’re an all-rounder, you can try switching to being a support when your team needs one or being a fragger when your team is missing one.

Final Thoughts

All in all, being level 50 is the base requirement to play ranked in Siege, but there’s more to it than just that. You should also be familiar with other fundaments of the game if you want to get a good kickstart in the game and earn a higher rank through your placement games.
