Overwatch 2 Season 9 release date
Overwatch 2 Season 9 is set to launch on February 13, 2024. This is a little earlier than we expected, given that most seasons last roughly 9 weeks, but that just means we get to have a whole new season earlier.

Overwatch 2 Season 9 Start countdown
If you’re too excited for the release of Season 9 of Overwatch 2 and are ready to get started, our countdown lets you know exactly how much time is left before you can jump into all the new content:
Overwatch 2 Season 9 new confirmed features:
Full Competitive Rework
A rework to the game’s competitive modes is in the cards – including, we’re told – more transparency and accuracy. It’ll also bring about a new tier rank known as Champion, giving players even higher goals to attain.
All New Cosmetics
There’ll be a pink theme to many of the new cosmetics in Season 9, thanks to the new season dropping in time for Valentine’s Day. There’ll also be some new Los Muertos weapons skins for players to obtain too.
New Battle Pass
Of course, the new season will feature a brand new Battle Pass, and the big Mythic skin rewards this time will be Moira – with the Mythic Ancient Caller Moira skin up for grabs alongside 80 tiers of rewards.
New Limited Time Events
There’ll be at least two limited time events during Season 9. A limited time Valentine’s Day event will see love in the air – and there’ll also be a Cosmic Crisis Event Mode. While we don’t know exactly what it’ll entail, the tease is “Survive the Unseen threat”
Hero Mastery Gauntlet
Those enjoying the Hero Mastery challenges will be pleased to hear a new gauntlet will be available, that’ll see you teaming up with other heroes in what sounds like a horde mode against waves of foes.
New Cowboy Bebop Collab Event (Midseason)
Midseason will bring about a new crossover event. While Blizzard are yet to say what it is, the Season 9 trailer finished with the unmistakable opening theme to anime Cowboy Bebop.
Jade Weapons in Overwatch 2 Season 9
Thanks to Blizzcon, we know that Jade Weapons and a tester for new hero Venture should both make an appearance at some point in Season 9.
Jade Weapons will join the game in Season 9, and you’ll be able to purchase these unique cosmetics with Competitive Points. We don’t know how much they’ll cost yet, but it’s expected they’re likely to be around the same price as Gold Weapon skins.
A quick note
CP still held at the end of Season 8 won’t carry over, and will instead be converted into legacy currency. Be sure to spend it while you can!
Hero test run for Venture
Venture is the next hero coming to Overwatch 2, and they’re slated to arrive in Season 10. We’re expecting that, much like Mauga, Venture will have a test period available during Season 9, giving players a first-hand preview of the character. We actually know a good bit about this Hero’s abilities, too.
- Primary fire: Launches an AOE short-range projectile that explodes when it hits an enemy or the terrain.
- Ability 1: Venture burrows underground. While burrowed, they can move in any direction and are invulnerable. Either automatically or manually, they’ll cause an AEO damage blast when launching back up to the surface.
- Ability 2: Venture dashes forwards, damaging enemies in their path. They also gain 50 temporary shield points on activating this ability.
What else might be coming in Overwatch 2 Season 9?
There will likely be a fair amount of rebalancing to come in Overwatch 2 Season 9. As Mauga will have had a full season by that point to settle into the roster, we expect he might see some adjustments in the Season 9 patch notes, alongside any necessary bug fixes.
Lastly, we may see the return or appearance of different game modes. We can’t make much of a guess at what the story and theme of the next season will be, but Blizzard will likely take advantage of the situation to try out new things, hopefully, based on community feedback from available limited-time modes in Call of the Hunt.
For now, that covers everything we know about the Overwatch 2 Season 9 release date and content speculation. As Season 8 draws nearer to a close and players start picking up remaining Season 8 skins, and especially unlocking that coveted Season 8 mythic skin, we’ll be sure to update you with anything new that we learn.
