It might not come to the surprise for many of you to see the young French sensation Victor Wembanyama at the top of the list. However, for some of you, it might be intriguing to see him with an 84 overall rating.

Rookies in NBA 2K don’t usually get the luxury often if ever to receive an 80+ overall rating on launch – even Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero was a 78 overall for NBA 2K23 before they bumped him to an 83 overall shortly after the season started. But Wembanyama is no ordinary first round pick, and making him 84 overall in NBA 2K24 was the right decision.

Seeing Wembanyama is in a league of his own, the next best rookies come with 78 overall ratings, which include G-League Ignite star Scoot Henderson and Alabama prospect Brandon Miller. The Thompson twins follow close behind with 76 overall ratings, while Pelicans rookie Jordan Hawkins makes a surprise landing in the Top 10.

Here’s a look at five of the Top 10 rookies in NBA 2K24 along with some analysis on why each made this coveted list.

Victor Wembanyama – 84 overall

The young Frenchmen is simply destined to be a superstar in the NBA. At 7’5″ and 220 pounds, Wembanyama can do it all on both sides of the ball and is only 19-years-old. Considering how good he looked over in the 2023 Summer League and how dominant he was in France, Wembanyama has simply all the tools and now the coach to groom him into one of the best players the NBA has ever seen. Seeing how quickly Banchero was able to get his overall rating boosted, NBA 2K decided to save themselves some time with Victor, and gave him the 84 overall he deserves.

Scoot Henderson – 78 overall

The young G-League Ignite prospect is one of the most athletic rookies coming out of the 2023 NBA Draft. From his explosiveness to natural feel for scoring from anywhere on the floor, Henderson has tons of potential to be a great scorer in the NBA and brings a diverse skill set for such a young player. He also has plenty of invaluable experience playing in the G-League, giving him a big leg up over a handful of the other collegiate rookies in his draft class. As a result, it comes to no surprise that Henderson received a 78 overall rating for NBA 2K24 come launch.

Amen Thompson – 76 overall

Although both brothers are very talented and played incredibly well during their time together with the Overtime Elite, Amen seems to have the edge over his brother in some respect, seeing he was selected right before him after all by the Houston Rockets. Though the youngster comes equipped with some excellent playmaking tools seeing his background as a point guard, Amen Thompson has also developed into an elite scorer inside and out, and could really take the league by a storm with his athleticism and strong two-way play. Well, lo and behold, both brothers are listed at 76 overall in NBA 2K24 as each sets out on their own new path on separate teams for the first time.

Taylor Hendricks – 73 overall

The rookie out of UCF looked really good in college and comes with a strong skill set that could work very well in Utah. In his sole season with UCF, Hendricks scored an average of 15.1 points per game while averaging 7.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.4 assists. Hendricks also shot 47.8% from the field and 39.4% from behind the three-point line. The kid has all the tools to be a great scorer in the NBA, and lo and behold, Hendricks will start out as a 73 overall come 2K Day.

Jordan Hawkins – 72 overall

During his short tenure at UConn, Hawkins really proved how dangerous and elite of a scorer he can be, and the Pelicans really got a great player that could turn into a starter. In his final season with UConn, Hawkins scored 16.2 points per game while averaging 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. The Pelicans missed Zion Williamson’s scoring a great deal last season and were also dealt with several other big injuries to overcome. With Hawkins now in the mix, the Pelicans have now another great scorer they can rely on, and someone who could thrive in the NBA.
