Lightyear Frontier beginner’s guide

Lightyear Frontier requires you to use your mech to gather resources, build structures around your Homestead, and save the ecosystem. As such, you will be spending a lot of time in your mech exploring the world. As you progress, you will get more upgrades for your mech and help save each of the world’s regions. Here are some tips to aid you in this process.

The Meadows and Pine Heights make great Homestead locations

The two starting areas of the game, The Meadows and Pine Heights, are great Homestead locations and areas where you can set up a camp for later use. The Meadows is near pretty much every other region, making it easy to reach all other locations. On top of this, these regions are full of early-game resources that you will need continuously throughout the game.

Feed the animals

Feeding the local wildlife contributes to your resource booster. The resource booster increases the amount of resources that are replenished on a daily basis. Things like aluminum, copper, and more depend on this bonus. The higher the bonus, the more of each resource you will have. Because of this, you should make it a point to make fodder and bring it to each of the animal nests around every region. That’s right, the bonus is region-related as well.

Feed animals for materials

Feeding the animals that you can find walking around will get you additional materials. When you feed one of these animals, they will drop items for you to pick up. You cannot be in your mech if you wish to feed the animals as they will run away.

Gather resources daily

Speaking of resources, you should be gathering them on a daily basis. Since resources respawn every day, you should grab as many as you can each day to make sure you have enough to make all the structures for your Homestead, craft items, and upgrade your mech. This coupled with the resource bonus will have you swimming in resources in no time.

Upgrade your Spike Saw early

The Spike Saw is one of the primary tools that you will be using. As such, it is good to prioritize upgrading this tool first as it will unlock more crafting recipes since you will be able to obtain more difficult-to-get materials. Other upgrades are important as well but we think the Spike Saw and the Irrigation Hose are the most used early on.

Don’t leave seeds in your inventory

Seeds don’t weigh anything so isn’t the issue. The issue is that it is easy to assume that you have the plant in your inventory when you first harvest it in the wild. Instead, it only gives you the seeds. Because of this, you should make sure to always plant these seeds as soon as you get back to your Homestead. Only after they have grown in your garden beds will get you the actual plant.

Build multiple of each structure

When it comes to crafting, it can take some time. Items like oils take around a minute to produce and don’t get us started on the two-minute wait time for Crystal Dust. Because certain items take a while to produce, you should make it a priority to build multiple of each of these structures. It will save you time in the long run and get you items much quicker.

Track your upgrades and materials

One of the biggest surprises we had was finding out you can track the items required for upgrades and structures. It is easy to look at a recipe and then forget what items you need while exploring the planet. Simply click on the recipe of an item or upgrade and it will pin it to your tasks so you always know what items are required. This is a real lifesaver.
