Space Marine 2 Operations is a class-based PvE co-op mode that allows up to 3 players to take on auxiliary missions of Combat Squads Talasa and Veridian that offer a spin on the same planets and objectives from the story campaign. Aside from hosting thrilling missions with stacks of replayability, Operations allow you to earn XP to level up classes, pick up Armory Data for upgrades and perks, and earn Requisitions to unlock fresh weapons and cosmetics.

However, you’ll need to unlock Operations as it isn’t available from the get-go nor is it accessible from the main menu as you’d expect. We’ll walk you through the process, which isn’t all that taxing.

How to play Operations in Space Marine 2

To unlock Operations in Space Marine 2, complete the Rain of Terror prologue tutorial. After returning to the Battle Barge Resilient in Kadaku’s Orbit, report to Captain Acheran and watch the cut scene. After the conversation, you’ll unlock both Operations and the PvE Eternal War modes.

You can access Operations right after completing the Rain of Terror prologue, but you won’t be able to tweak your weapon and loadout until after completing the Skyfire campaign mission. After reporting back to Acheran, proceed to the Launch Bay and talk to the Chaplain. Before boarding the Thunderhawk Gunship for the next mission, you’ll see an objective prompting you to proceed with the Inferno mission via the Battle Map.

From this point onward, you can access Operations using the Battle Map in the Strategium or Launch Bay. These are the consoles you can interact with in both locations on the Battle Barge. Navigate to the Operations tab along the top of the screen then select the Operations mission you want to undertake. Only the sixth Operations mission, Ballistic Engine, is unlocked at this point. You’ll need to complete specific campaign missions to unlock all six missions, as detailed below:

✓ Difficulty settings

You can play Operations on any difficulty setting, though you may want to keep them lowered until you’ve leveled up your class and weapons sufficiently to take on harder difficulties and not struggle.

More Operations missions and maps are on the way and will coincide with the release of new seasons per the Space Marine 2 post-launch roadmap. A higher difficulty setting, dubbed Ruthless, is also on the way along with new enemy types, a Prestige Rank, and more.

How to change game modes in Space Marine 2

To switch game modes in Space Marine 2, interact with the Battle Map console next to the stairs directly opposite the Thunderhawk in the Launch Pad on the Battle Barge. The console allows you to choose between three modes: Operations, Campaign, and Eternal War PvP. The mode can be switched whenever you want while onboard the Battle Barge, with any campaign progress saved for later on. You can also switch modes using the Battle Map in the Strategium near Captain Acheran and the green planet hologram.
