How to Unlock Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise

As a Monster Hunter Rise player, you’ll always find yourself struggling to choose between style and utility when it comes to your armor. You could have a combination of different pieces from the best armor sets in the game, but is it worth sacrificing your hunter’s looks? Luckily you can have both style and utility by opting to equip layered armor on your hunter.

This guide will tell you what layered armor is and how to unlock it for your hunter in Monster Hunter Rise.

What is Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise?

Introduced as a feature in 2018’s Monster Hunter World, layered armor allows you to change your hunter’s outward appearance while keeping on the base armor you already have, along with all of its stat buffs. This gives your hunter a stylish and personalized look without sacrificing their attributes.

Additionally, you can also equip layered armor onto your Palico or Palamute to give your animal companions a cool new look.

How to Forge/Unlock Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise?

As you progress through the early stages of Monster Hunter Rise, you will unlock the Layered Armor feature automatically. 

After completing the game’s initial tutorial, talk to the NPC Senri the Mailman, who you can find in Kamura Village. By talking to Senri, you can equip Layered Armor and redeem any DLC you might have on your account.

You can forge Layered Armor once you reach Hunter Rank 8. You can gather the required materials and visit Hamon the Blacksmith in the Smithy. You’ll also be able to check which materials you need for specific armor sets by looking through the “Forging Materials” section in the “Forge Layered Armor” sub-menu. 

However, it is worth noting that you can only obtain many Layered armors, such as the Sinister Seal or Kamura Armor Set, through Amiibos or add-on content and not from crafting.

How to Equip Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise?

After talking to Senri following the initial tutorial, you can access a special “Layered Equipment Chest” through the “Manage Equipment” submenu in your item box. After this, to equip layered armor in the game, do the following:

• Access your Item Box
• Select “Layered Armor Settings” in the Layered Equipment Chest
• Click on “Change Layered Armor”
• Choose which Layered Armor you want to equip on your hunter

You can press the bumper buttons to swap between Layered Armor and Equipped Armor to see what your character is currently equipped with.

Layered armor is purely cosmetic armor players can equip to conceal their base armor. You can unlock many layered armor sets available in the game, such as by forging them at the Smithy, purchasing downloadable content, or scanning Monster Hunter Rise Amiibo figures. You can equip or unequip your layered armor anytime from the layered armor chest.
