Fortnite’s schedule is pretty full these days. With the release of Chapter 5, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival, Epic Games has done a lot of fantastic work lately. But we are here today for something completely different because we are going to talk about Epic Games’ $245 million refund. With this in mind, players are now asking the following question: How to refund Fortnite accounts?

The legal battle between the Federal Trade Commission and Epic Games, which has been going on for quite some time, has finally been settled. According to this result, Fortnite developers will compensate thousands of players. Of course, there are many conditions about how much and how this compensation will be.

Why is Fortnite offering refunds?

Fortnite was released in 2017 and has evolved in many ways over the years. The most important of these developments is the operation of Fortnite’s Item Shop and the design of the user interface. After all, the version five years ago was not modern at all, and that’s why there were already unwanted purchases or security problems.

Unless there is a special situation, you can return your purchases in Fortnite with Refund Tickets. However, the returns that this news is about are a bit more serious. You can also quickly refund unwanted purchases from the Item Shop.

However, let’s start talking about the $245 million in refunds and how you can benefit from it.

How to refund your account in Fortnite

Three groups of players will be able to benefit from the $245 million that Epic Games will return to users through the Federal Trade Commission. The conditions under which these player groups can receive refunds are clearly laid out in the official statement.

Here are the accounts that can receive refunds for Fortnite accounts:

Parents whose children made purchases with their credit cards between January 2017 and November 2018. Although the credit card holder is currently required to verify their identity, this firewall was absent in the first year of the game.

The second group that can request a refund from Fortnite are users whose accounts were suspended between January 2017 and September 2022 and who had problems with unauthorized payments with their credit card companies. Those who received refunds from their bank for unauthorized payments are not included here.

The third and final group are Fortnite players who accidentally purchase unwanted items due to poor interface design. These players were also victims of poor design in the early days. While nowadays you have to hold down the button to buy a Fortnite item, in the early years you could do it with a single click.

If you think you belong to one of the above groups and want a refund. First, check out the FTC’s official announcement. There you will find all the details and you can follow us for further explanation on how to proceed. For this process, you will need to enter your claim number and your Epic Games ID. You will also need to enter an estimated amount of V-Bucks you spent on unwanted purchases.

It’s important to note that you only have until January 17, 2024, to apply for a refund. Once this date passes, you will not be able to get a refund for your Fortnite account. Furthermore, Epic Games will simply refund you for unwanted purchases you’ve made in your account, but you will not lose your cosmetic items in this process.

Since this is an FTC case, only players from the United States may apply for a Fortnite refund.
