If you’re still wondering whether you can still apply for a Fortnite refund from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlement, we’ve got an update for you. In late 2022, Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million in refunds, and players were eligible to apply it for a brief period. This is the largest FTC settlement in the video gaming industry, so make sure to get a piece of it. This article will guide you through the entire process, so make sure to follow all the steps. How do I get a Fortnite refund?
In 2022, the FTC ruled that Epic Games broke a couple of rules regarding Fortnite’s in-game purchases. The company allegedly charged gamers and parents for unwanted cosmetic items, and many players were even locked out of their accounts for disputing these charges. Due to this, the FTC ruled that Epic needed to pay a $275 million fine and pay back $245 million in refunds. To apply for a Fortnite refund, you need to meet one of the following criteria:
- You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022
- Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018
- Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges
Furthermore, this is only available to the residents of the United States of America.

If you believe you are eligible, you may file the form on fortniterefund.com. To do this, you need your Epic Games ID and a claim number. You can find the Epic Games ID by logging into epicgames.com and going to your account settings. The ID contains 32 characters. You will also be asked to provide an estimate of how many unwanted purchases you made, as well as the approximate V-Bucks value.
Refund deadline
Update: The deadline for the refund has passed, yet you can still apply for it. The FTC will likely keep it open for a few more weeks.
Another important thing to note is that you were required to file a claim by January 10, 2025. If you didn’t do this, you will not be eligible for the Fortnite refund, even if you were wrongfully charged for a cosmetic item in the past. The original deadline was January 17, 2024, but the FTC extended it, allowing more Fortnite players to apply for a refund.
Make sure to only submit your account information on fortniterefund.com. You may also find more information on the FTC’s official website. Due to the popularity of the refund, there will likely be some scams. However, keep in mind that you don’t need to enter your account name or password to get a refund. Your Epic Games ID is all you need to submit, so make sure to do it as soon as possible.
How much will I get from a Fortnite refund?
It is impossible to say how much you will exactly get from the FTC refund. The amount will mostly depend on the number of eligible players who apply for it. Furthermore, you will get more if you spent a lot of money on unwanted purchases. In the first round of the refund, players received approximately $114 each. The first round included $72 million and more than 600,000 eligible players received money from it.
Will I lose my Fortnite skins if I apply for a refund?
Your Fortnite account will not be affected if you apply for a refund. The cosmetic items you purchased on accident shouldn’t have been in your account in the first place. Due to this, you will not lose your skins or anything else.
