Naturally, you’re going to want to know how to get your hands on the MP5 – or Lachmann Sub – as quickly as possible in Modern Warfare 2. We’ll walk you through how to unlock this incredible weapon right away. 

Modern Warfare 2 – Unlocking Weapons 

Unlocking new guns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 works in much the same way as a tech tree. Certain weapons, like the Signal 50 Sniper Rifle, can be unlocked based on your overall progression rank. But in the case of most guns, you’re going to need to spend more specific time leveling up to unlock more tools for your kit. 

It’s not only your rank that can grow and evolve in Modern Warfare 2, individual guns have their own levels and unique progression too. The better you perform with an individual weapon, the faster it ranks up. Kills, assists, and objective time all contribute towards this.

Each weapon has a branching tree connecting it to several other weapons. When you level a gun up to a certain threshold, it will unlock the next gun along for you. This weapon will in turn lead to more as it is leveled up. There is some overlap between weapon trees, but overall it’s a very organic method of progression and weapon unlocks. 

It’s possible to spend time with your favorite weapons and see what they unlock naturally. But if you want a specific gun like the MP5 unlocked quickly in Modern Warfare 2, it’s recommended to see what weapons will lead up to it, and put a bit of time into them in order to climb the tree. 

How to Unlock the MP5

In order to unlock the MP5 in Modern Warfare 2, you’ll need to go through a few steps: 

• Level up to progression rank 16. At rank 16, you”ll unlock the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle. 
• Use the Lachmann-556 until you reach rank 13 with the weapon, which will unlock the LM-16 Receiver.
• In the Gunsmith, equip the LM-16 Receiver to the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle, which will allow you to use it as the Lachmann-556 Assault Rifle. 
• Rank up the Lachmann-556 to rank 12 and unlock the Lach-9 Receiver.  
• Finally, swap out the Lachmann-556’s Receiver for the Lach-9, at which point you’ll be able to use it as the Lachmann Sub/MP5.
