During your adventures throughout Hogwarts and in the lush valleys beyond, you’ll occasionally come across hats, robes, scarves, and other gear with hidden stats, known as unidentified gear. Curiously, you can’t equip these items, depriving you, in most cases, of gear with solid stats and talent slots. Shrouded in mystery then, as are so many aspects of the game. So, how do you reveal unidentified gear in Hogwarts Legacy?

How to Reveal Unidentified Gear in Hogwarts Legacy
Before you can reveal unidentified gear, you’ll need to have progressed the story until you unlock The Room of Requirement main story quest. Professor Weasley summons you to a hidden corner of Hogwarts, and you’ll get to explore The Room of Requirements, meeting Deek, the elf, along the way.
As you progress through the quest and the room, it becomes clear that The Room of Requirements becomes a hub for your character. You can customize the space with conjuration spellcraft items, including stations, decorations, and furniture, by using the newly acquired Conjuring Spell, Altering Spell, and Evanesco.
Among the stations is the Desk of Description. It’s a fixed part of The Room of Requirements and is available as soon as you unlock the space, so there is no need to conjure or place it down. You can use the Desk of Description to reveal the magical properties of any unidentified gear you’ve picked up on your adventures.
To reveal unidentified gear, ensure it’s in your inventory, then walk up to the Desk of Description and tap the Identify button (Square on PlayStation 5). After a brief pause, the desk will reveal all the previously hidden stats, allowing you to equip the item as you would any standard gear.
