How to unlock the LAS-5 Scythe beam rifle in Helldivers 2

Unlocking the LAS-5 Scythe beam rifle is the same method used to unlock other weapons. Head to the Acquisitions menu, click on the Warbonds tab, and open up the Helldivers Mobilize store. From here, scroll to page 5, where you’ll find the LAS-5 Scythe available for 30 Medals. Be aware that you need to spend at least 150 Medals to unlock this page of the store.

How to use the LAS-5 Scythe beam rifle

As potentially the first laser weapons players will come across, you’ll quickly find you can’t just use them like a normal gun. They have perfect accuracy, meaning you’ll need to be able to reliably hit your target, deals continuous damage, and has a slow turning speed. 

You’ll also generate heat as long as the gun is firing, which can cause the weapon to overheat, leaving you high and dry. For this reason, you want to lock on to a target (preferably a big one), and only once you’ve aimed at them, start firing.

While it might not do amazing damage to bugs, the LAS-5 Scythe does huge damage to Cyborgs, so in certain circumstances it can be incredibly powerful.

Once you kill an enemy with the Scythe, stop firing to give the weapon a bit of time for the heat to dissipate, and then target a new enemy and repeat. While it might be tempting to swing around and hit multiple enemies continuously, you likely won’t deal enough damage to them, and risk overheating the weapon.
