If you’re playing solo, you can do pretty well, but at higher difficulties you’ll need a squad to help out. How to play with randoms in Helldivers 2
There are two ways you can play with randoms in Helldivers 2. These are to host a game and let random players join you, or to join an already existing game. But before we get to either of them, you first need to make sure your matchmaking settings are set up correctly.
Open up your settings, head to the ‘Social’ tab at the top, and then to the ‘Gameplay’ tab. Right at the top, you’ll see the ‘Matchmaking Privacy’ option. Make sure this is set to ‘Public’. You can also change your crossplay settings here if you want to allow players on another platform to join your games.
Now that’s done, we can go through how to actually play with randoms.
Joining a game
Joining a public game in Helldivers 2 could not be easier. Once you have your matchmaking settings set to public, open up your Galactic War map. Instead of choosing a specific mission, simply select the Quickplay option. This will match you with other random players, either to begin a mission, or to join an already ongoing mission.
Hosting a game
To host a game, head to the Galactic War map and select a mission, as you normally would. If you’ve got your matchmaking settings set to public, then you should start getting players joining your mission. This can happen while you’re still on your ship, or while you’re already in the mission. We’d recommend waiting until you have a full squad to start, however.
