How to fix the Defrosting Helldiver message bug in Helldivers 2

Unfortunately, because of the nature of the issue, there doesn’t seem to be a completely effective means of remedying this bug, but there are a couple of things you can do. The error itself is caused by server issues. The game has seen many more players than developers Arrowhead Game Studios were expecting, so servers are not equipped to handle so many.

Here are a few methods of fixing this bug that you can try for yourself:

Check server status

If the servers are down, there’s unfortunately nothing you can do until they’re back up, so check this first. Head to the game’s website, official social media or Discord channel to see if they’ve made an announcement of server issues. If they have, you’ll simply have to wait for them to be resolved.

Restart your game

The first thing you should do is to simply restart your game. This is understandably irritating, especially if you’ve just joined a game with some friends, but unless you restart, you’ll be stuck with this message indefinitely.

Restart your PC or console

If you restart the game and are still faced with the same message, your next port of call should be to fully restart your PC or console. In almost all cases, this should be enough to solve the problem.

Verify your game files

For PC players, you may also want to verify your game files. Right click on Helldivers 2 in your Steam library, and then click ‘Properties’. Head to the ‘Installed Files’ tab, and click ‘Verify integrity of game files’. This will check you have all the necessary files installed and will fix any issues.

Turn off your VPN

Lastly, some players have reported that turning off their VPN has been able to fix the issue. If you’re using a VPN while playing, it might be worth quickly switching it off to see if you can solve the bug that way.
