To complement the formidable Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, God of War Ragnarok gives players a brand new weapon to slay and brutalize the local beasts, trolls, and Hel Walkers. Adding a whole new level of gameplay complexity Kratos, the spear isn’t immediately available, which has players wondering how exactly do you get the Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to acquire the spear. At this point, it’s worth noting that this guide contains some major spoilers – even the Draupnir Spear itself is a God of War Ragnarok spoiler of sorts. As such, we recommend treading carefully. You’ll get the spear as part of a mandatory main path mission, so as long as you keep playing you’ll eventually see it added to your arsenal.

God of War Ragnarok Forging Destiny

Make your way through the Myrkr Tunnels in Svartalfheim to reach the surface, arriving at the foot of The Forge. Once on the surface, head to The Forge gates, then up to the cable lift. It’s blocked and there’s a puzzle to solve. Take the path to the right of the lift. Clear the vines from the lift with the Blades, then grapple up to the ledge on the right. Freeze the geyser to hop across. Follow the path round to another geyser. Freeze it to raise the lift.

Board the lift and signal to Brok. Once at the top take a sharp right and grapple up the ledge. Signal to Brok, then throw your axe at the other geyser through the scaffolding. This will open the gate. Head through. Follow the path and destroy the Nightmare Haunt on the lift to reach the final area before you pick up the Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok Forging Destiny

Sprint back to the lift and ride it up. Dismount, fight off the grims, and squeeze through the gap in the cave ahead. Descend to the large lift below. Interact with the lift, which is unfortunately broken.

Axe the blue rock and return to Brok. Fetch some bronze rock and go back to Brok. Return to the lift. Turn the crank to plunge underwater to meet The Lady and grab the Draupnir Spear, God of War Ragnarok’s newest weapon.

From there, simply complete the Forging Destiny quest, then you free to roam and fight with the spear as you see fit. Aside from its combat chops, the spear can also be used to spear weak points and wind notches, the former to break through rocks and ice, the former to climb up to previously attainable areas.

Like all of Kratos’ weapons, you can upgrade the spear to improve its stats at any shop across the Nine Realms or at Sindri’s house using Gale Flames. There are four in total. The first is rewarded for fighting off Hrist & Mist in the finale of The Summoning main story mission in Muspelheim. The second is rewarded for completing the Nocturnal Predator Favor in Vanaheim. The third is available after beating the Berserker Gravestone boss fight in the Jarnsmida Pitmines, just before entering The Applecore. And, the last is a reward for bringing all the lyndwirms back to Sindri’s House and giving them to Ratatoskr to complete The Lost Lindwyrms side quest.

How to Use the Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok

You can switch to the Draupnir Spear as you would when cycling between the Blades of Chaos and Leviathan axe by tapping the Down button on the D-pad. The spear comes with its own set of attachments, light spear attacks, heavy attacks, and runic attacks, which you can combo to devastating effect. Better yet, any ranged light attack has a detonation skill. Pressing the triangle button after lodging them in an enemy or the environment, will cause a blast and stun enemies.

Aside from its combat capabilities, use the spear on weak points and wind notches, the former to break through rocks and ice, the former to climb up to previously attainable areas that generally contain legendary chests, collectibles, and crafting materials.
