Final Fantasy XIV, one of the most popular MMORPGs of all time, is an installment of the Final Fantasy series, which just so happens to be one of if not the most beloved Japanese RPG franchises of all time.

Players who’ve played some of the other installments of this series might be familiar with Chocobos. What a lot of FFXIV players don’t know, however, is that it’s possible to summon Chocobos in this game as well.

What is a Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV?

The big lovable birds that go by the name of Chocobos have become a sort of a staple of the series, and many would consider Chocobos to be the mascot characters of the Final Fantasy series, specifically the yellow one. After all, they’ve even got their own spin off series of games that were also very well received.

Chocobos in FFXIV specifically are treated as mounts for our characters. Not only are they the first mounts we get in the game, but it’s also possible to summon them in battle in case you ever need some extra assistance.

How to get a Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV?

Before being able to summon a Chocobo, you first have to have one bound to your character as your mount. To do this, you need to complete a quest fittingly called ‘My Little Chocobo’ which is given to you by your grand company’s resident commander.

Completing the quest might take you a while, however, as you will be tasked with collecting 200 company seals in order to purchase a Chocobo insurance that you will then give to another NPC in your company.

When you do eventually complete the quest, you’ll be rewarded with a Chocobo Whistle. Then, all you’ll have to do is go to your inventory, look for the Chocobo Whistle item, and use it. Don’t be alarmed when it disappears from your inventory, as if you look in your mount collection now, you’ll be able to find your new Chocobo buddy.

Summoning Your Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV?

After bounding a Chocobo to your character as a mount, summoning it in the wild is easy. All you have to do is open your mount screen via the subcommand menu and you’ll see the company Chocobo that you obtained. From here, interact with the Company Chocobo icon, and your character will summon it allowing you to ride the big bird.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind, however. The first and most important thing is that you can’t just summon your Chocobo anywhere. For example, you can’t call any mount in major cities or dungeons.

Finally, having the ability to summon a Chocobo as a mount will not instantly allow you to summon it in battle too, even though you would have gone through the basics of fighting alongside your mount in the ‘My Little Chocobo’ quest.

Instead, you will first have to reach level 30 or above and pick up a quest in Gridania’s South Shroud in Camp Tranquil. Completing this quest will allow you to summon your mounts (including the Company Chocobo) in battle
