Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most generous games out there, as it allows players to experience a good chunk of the game, including its expansions, completely for free. However, the rest has to be bought.

In addition to buying the rest of the expansions, this game also has a subscription service tied to its playability. This means that if you’re not subscribed to the game, you won’t be able to play at all. Unfortunately, seeing as how it’s an automatically recurring cost, a lot of people don’t know how to cancel their subscriptions.

To help those people, we’ll be going through what you need to do to cancel your FFXIV subscription. We’ll also be going through the steps of renewing your subscription for players returning to the massive MMORPG title.

How to Cancel Your Subscription in Final Fantasy XIV

As mentioned above, FFXIV is automatically subscribed to whatever tier to purchase, because of which you might find the cost automatically subtracted from your account every time your subscription runs out.

However, as is to be expected, you can cancel this at any time, after which this recurring cost will stop completely. To do so:

  1. First, go to the official Square Enix website, and log in to the Square Enix account you use to play FFXIV.
  2. Then, select ‘Mog Station’.
  3. Look for and click on either ‘Your Account’ or ‘Manage Service Options’.
  4. Look for ‘Service Account Status’, and directly below that will be the option to cancel your subscription. Click on it, then select ‘next’ to complete the process.

To confirm if your subscription has really been canceled, go back to ‘Service Account Status’. And check your current time remaining. You may still have game time depending on the remaining days left in your billing cycle, but when you run out it should say ‘expired’.

If you’re leaving the game for a while, then chances are you might want to cancel your recurring paid retainers as well. This can be done so by first going into miscellaneous options, then selecting ‘retainer services’ and canceling the subscription.

How to Renew Subscription in Final Fantasy XIV

So you canceled your FFXIV subscription, got done with your exams or whatever else you wanted to do, and now want to jump back into arguably the best MMORPG out there. Well, you’ll have to renew your subscription first.

Luckily, just like how canceling a subscription is straightforward, renewing it is too. What you have to do is:

  1. First, go to the official Square Enix website and log in to your account.
  2. Select ‘Mog Station’.
  3. Look for and click on either ‘Your Account’ or ‘Manage Service Options’.
  4. Now, to reactivate your subscription, look for ‘Subscription Renewal’, and select your payment method (either ‘Credit Card/Crysta Payment’ or ‘Add GameTime Card’.) Selecting ‘Credit Card/Crysta Payment’ will require you to confirm your payment method and your subscription type/period. On the other hand, selecting ‘Add Game TimeCard’ will automatically provide a Standard subscription for a 60 day period as soon as you enter the game code.

If you want to reactivate your retainers as well, then go to miscellaneous options, and select the retainer service option. Choose the number of retainers you want to renew, and then select ‘next’ to finalize the process.
