Below you’ll find everything you need to know about dying clothes in FFXIV, including how to unlock the ability to dye them, as well as how to do it yourself after unlocking that said option.

How to Unlock the Dye Clothes Option in Final Fantasy XIV

Before unlocking the option to dye your clothes whatever color you want, you have to unlock the option to do so in the first place. Luckily, all you have to do for this is to complete a super simple fetch quest that unlocks as soon as you hit level 15. Naturally, this means you can’t dye clothes if you aren’t level 15 or higher.

Luckily, this is one of the easiest quests in the game, and can be done in mere minutes. So basically what you need to do to unlock the option to dye clothes is:

  1. First, ensure you’re level 15 or higher.
  2. Once you’ve reached level 15 or higher, head to Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan
  3. Look for and speak with Swyrgeim, who can be found leaning against a wall on the bay’s main square.
  4. Speaking with her will give you the quest called ‘Color Your World’.
  5. Purchase a bottle of blood orange juice in the local inn from Folclind
  6. Bring the blood orange juice to Swyrgeim and you’ll unlock the ability to dye your clothes.

After unlocking the option/ability to dye your clothes, actually applying dye to them is fairly straightforward. All you have to do is:

  1. Select the piece of clothing you want to dye (either from your inventory or the character screen) by right clicking on PC or pressing square/X on console/controller.
  2. The option to dye that specific piece of clothing will be given in the menu that pops up. Click it.
  3. Select the dye/color you want to apply and that should do it.

One thing to remember is that dying clothes aren’t exactly free, as one dye job consumes exactly one dye from your inventory. One dye that you need to have in your inventory in the first place otherwise you won’t be able to dye your clothing.

If you aren’t sure where to get dyes, then luckily there are a variety of different means such as simply buying them from vendors or maybe making your own by using pigments. However, whatever you do, do NOT buy dyes from the market board, as players tend to grossly inflate the prices.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know how to dye your clothes, all that’s left to do is to get to making your character’s wardrobe as colorful (or dark, we don’t judge) as possible.
