One of the biggest things an MMORPG tries to do is to allow players to really see themselves as their characters. After all, the RP in MMORPG stands for roleplaying, which is a core aspect of these games.

Well, what better way to be able to roleplay as a character than to buy that character a house? Not only does it make the character feel that much more real, but having a house in a game like Final Fantasy XIV has multiple advantages.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about buying a house in FFXIV, including how to buy one, as well as some of the advantages you get for owning one for your character.

What are the advantages of having a House in Final Fantasy XIV?

Let it be said that not every FFXIV player will have a house in their life in-game. This is mostly because of the insane cost in Gil as well as the fact that there are a limited number of plots players can buy on every server.

However, when you do get your hands on a house, you’re in for some major advantages. Perhaps the biggest advantage is the fact that you can make some precious Gil by using the gardening mechanic.

There are other fun features, such as the ability to decorate your house and garden, as well as the option to stable your Chocobo to train and spend time with it.

How to Buy a House in Final Fantasy XIV

Before you buy a house, there are two things you need to do:

  • Have at least one class that’s level 50 or higher
  • Have your character’s Grand Company rank be at second lieutenant or higher.

After meeting all these prerequisites, you’ll be ready to buy your character a house. Granted, of course, that you have the required money. Although apartments always cost 500,000 Gil, houses cost around six times that but offer better features.

One very important thing to keep in mind is that Final Fantasy XIV has a lottery system when it comes to buying plots. What this means is that, because of the limited number of plots, every nine days players are able to enter for a specific plot’s lottery to see if they’re able to win it.

After picking out the plot you want for yourself (We actually recommend going for a smaller one that might have less demand to maximize your chances of winning the lottery), what you have to do is:

  1. Complete the quest that offers access to the district of your choice. These districts include Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul’dah, Kugane, and Ishgard.
  2. Head to the officer of the district of your choice and interact with them
  3. Select the “Go to ward” option.
  4. Check every ward and its subsections to see if there is a plot available. If the price is in white then you can purchase it. However, if you see the name of the owner then it has already been purchased.
  5. Click on the ward number and head to the plot’s location.
  6. Once there, click on the placard and verify that it’s available for purchase. Click on the button to enter the lottery then hope for the best (you’ll have to pay the full amount upfront).

Now all that’s left to do is to hope you win the lottery, at which point you’ll see a popup at the plot indicating that you won. Remember to check in as soon as the period ends otherwise you might miss your chance even if you win.

If you don’t win, however, then worry not as you’ll get all the Gil you spent back as soon as the period is over.

Now that you know all there is to know about purchasing a house in FFXIV, all that’s left to do is to start collecting the Gil to buy a house for yourself. Time to climb the ranks of your Grand Company to give your character the good life.
