Every MMORPG has the players give every character they make a unique game to set them apart from the rest of the players, and Final Fantasy XIV, the insanely popular MMORPG by Square Enix is no different.

However, sometimes players might want to change the name they had set for their character, maybe because they just don’t like it anymore, or because they want to change it to something better. Fortunately, FFXIV allows players to change the names of their characters – for a price, of course.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about changing your name in FFXIV, so you no longer have to use the name you set all those years back.

How to Change Your Name in Final Fantasy XIV

Luckily, changing your name in FFXIV is pretty straightforward. Unlike changing your character’s appearance, you also don’t have to meet any in-game requirements.

However, keep in mind that this process won’t be free. You’ll have to pay $10 if you want to change the name of your character. So if you haven’t gotten too far in the game yet, then you might be better off simply making a new character instead.

If you’re sure you want to change the name of your character, then all you have to do is follow the below mentioned steps.

  1. The first thing you need to do is go to the official Mog Station website, as you can’t change your name using any in game option.
  2. Log in to the Square Enix account that has the character you want to change the name of. (If you have multiple service accounts, you will be taken to the service account selection screen.)
  3. On the screen right after logging in, scroll down until you find the ‘character renaming service’ option and click it.
  4. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the process. Remember to select the correct character. Don’t want to end up changing the wrong character’s name.
  5. After confirming the process, you should receive an email stating that the service process has been completed.
  6. Finally, log in to the same Square Enix account and select the character whose name you have just changed.

Keep in mind that it might take a while for the change to take effect, even if you’ve completed the character renaming service. So if you find that the name change hasn’t taken effect, then wait a while and try again.

Additionally, you don’t change the character’s name from the Mog Station website. Instead, you change it in the game the next time you log in to that specific account.

Finally, as mentioned above, you have to pay $10 every time you change a character’s name, because of which you should first be 100% sure you actually want to change your character’s name, as it doesn’t come for free.
