With a bit of luck and a dogged devotion to smashing every crate in Limveld, you’ll come across an item in Elden Ring Nightreign dubbed the Cord End. The opaque name and even more unhelpful item description, which reads ‘gain entry somewhere’, provide no help whatsoever as to how and where the item is used. Limveld is relatively vast so somewhere could be anywhere.
It doesn’t help that the Cord End is an extremely rare item so even coming across this mysterious cluster of white strands in the first place is no small task. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to find and use the Cord in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Where to find the Cord End in Elden Ring Nightreign
To get the Cord End, you’ll need to break crates in Churches, the dilapidated chapels where you can unlock extra Sacred Flask charges by interacting with the altar. Two sets of two crates sit just before the altar on both sides of the church. Every instance of Limveld spawns three Churches so it’s worth checking the crates at every one your visit as you hoover up those precious extra flasks.
Whether the Cord End drops is all down to luck, but when it does the item stands out because it appears as a yellow drop on the ground, illustrating its legendary rarity. And, like other items and consumables, it takes up an item slot in your inventory. Be careful not to inadvertently get rid of it if you plan on using it.
How to use the Cord End in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Cord End is effectively a key that unlocks a concealed stone door located in the shallow river that cuts through the Castle location at the centre of Limveld. The exact location is a short jog north of the Castle and can be reached by simply following the river north until you spot a Spiritstream on your left. The door is on the eastern bank of the river and cut into the large cliff just before the bridge above.
Approach the door with the Cord End equipped and it will open. If you approach the door without the item, you’ll see message that reads ‘Opens only for those who wield merit.’ Follow the path down into a tunnel to find x3 Sacrificial Twigs Talismans – one for each Nightfarer in your party.
A Sacrificial Twig prevents you from losing your Runes and losing a level upon death, though you’ll lose the Talisman. It’s a one use deal but incredibly useful if you’re still in Day 1 as it acts as a very welcome safety net. It uses a lot of its appeal if you’re deep into Day 2 though, so weigh up whether it’s worth trekking over to the stone door to grab the Twigs or not.
