There are multiple smithing styles in Dragon’s Dogma 2 but none are as strong as Dwarven style. Unfortunately, this style isn’t available right away leaving many wondering how to unlock Dwarven smithing. Luckily, two NPCs in the game can provide this service: Brokkr and Gautstafr.

NPCs that perform Dwarven Smithing

Brokkr and Gautstafr are the two Dwarven Blacksmiths. Brokkr is unlocked by completing the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge quest line and Gautstafr is unlocked by helping him reach the hot springs on Agamen Volcanic Island.

Where to find the Dwarven Blacksmith in Dragon’s Dogma 2

There are two Dwarven Blacksmiths in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Brokkr and Gautstafr. Both can provide the service but are unlocked in different ways. Let’s break down how to go about unlocking each of these NPCs in the game so you can get your weapons and armour upgraded.

Where to find Gautstafr in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Gautstafr is found on Agamen Volcanic Island near the exit to Grabnir’s Grotto. To reach this area, you will need to head to the south of Bakbattahl to the southernmost tip of Battahl. From there, go through the cave system and you will meet Gautstafr. Complete the Put a Spring in Thy Step quest and you will unlock his smithing. Simply go back to his home later on to use the service.

Where to find Brokkr in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The other Dwarven Blacksmith, Brokkr, is unlocked by completing the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge and the Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge quests. To initiate this quest, speak to Roman at Vernworth Castle. He does not have a set location. He often can be found wandering the noble quarter or the grounds near the castle. He should walk up to you if you get close to him.

From there, you will meet Brokkr in Bakbattahl and need to collect Glimmercoal. Once these quests are complete, you will unlock the Dwarven blacksmith in Bakbattahl.

What does Dwarven Smithing do in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Unlike other smithing types, Dwarven Smithing increases your knockback power and increases your knockback defence. This is vastly different to other styles like Vermundian Style, which increases all attributes evenly. Increasing your knockback power allows you to more easily break an opponent’s stance and topple them, increasing the damage you can deal.
