Here is how to enhance equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How to upgrade weapons and armor in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To enhance your equipment, you must go to a shop that has a forge. Almost any weapon or armor shop will do in Vermund or Battahl. Keep in mind that the style of smithing changes in areas. For instance, the Sacred Arbor is different than smithing in Vernworth. Interact with the NPC at the shop and select the enhance equipment option.

This will bring you to the enhancement menu where you can upgrade your gear and the gear of your Pawns. In this menu, you will see your gear listed on the left side of the screen. Choose the item you wish to enhance and then press the prompt to confirm. The materials required for the upgrade will be shown under the weapon in the center part of the menu.

With each upgrade that is performed on a weapon or armor piece, the strength, magic, weight, and other stats are increased. The rarity of the materials you need for the upgrades increases over time. You might need to take down cyclopes for one item or a group of goblins for another.

Upgrade anywhere

It doesn’t matter if you go to armories or weaponsmiths. As long as the NPC sells weapons, they will be able to upgrade your gear. The same can be said if they have a forge.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 smithing styles explained

The Smithing Style used during the upgrade depends on where you are in the world. For instance, Roderick in Vernworth has a different technique than the elven blacksmith in Sacred Arbor. Depending on the smithy, different stats will be enhanced on your gear when you upgrade them. Here is a breakdown of each style:

  • Vermundian style – Stats are increased evenly across your weapon or armor
  • Elven Style – Mainly increases magick effects on your weapon or armor and has little effect on strength and defense
  • Battahli style – Mainly increases your strength and defense stats over magic
  • Dwarven smithing – Enhances sturdiness and the ability to make foes flinch from solid blows
  • Wyrmfire Style – Increases weapons and armor above the standard three ranks

After the second upgrade and the third upgrade, you will need to turn to Wyrmfire style smithing from Dragonforged to enhance your weapon or armor further. This will happen as part of the main missions in the story and requires Wyrmslife Crystals. These crystals are mostly obtained by killing dragons so always be sure to drop these drakes if you happen to come across them.
