A preserved Medusa head in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a fearsome weapon that can turn even bosses to stone. After a fight in the introduction, this fearsome monster makes a quick exit after turning some characters to stone. If you think you’re ready to take their head as a powerful trophy, our guide will show you how to do just that.

Where to find Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Medusa can be found in the Caliginous Depths cave southwest of Bakbattahl in the Wyrmsblood Forest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s easy to spot as it’s up north from a cave that you’ll find among the greenery in the Wyrmsblood Forest. On the way, you’ll meet people who tell you stories of a beast who turns people to stone. A path near the base of a mountain with stone people and animals will guide you to the monster.

Beating Medusa is tied to three achievements in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Off with Its Head! – Decapitate Medusa.
  • Getting a Head – Get a preserved Medusa head.
  • Eye for an Eye – Petrify Medusa using their own head.

How to defeat Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Try to be at least level 50 and pick the Thief, Fighter, or Warrior vocation in advance. This is because Medusa is a fearsome foe and you need a slashing weapon like a Greatsword to chop off Medusa’s head.

Bring some Panacea to cure your pawns if they get petrified. Instead, you could also get the Ring of Motility from the Agamen Ruins Apothecary. Malleating Elixirs can cure petrification too and are created by combining Cinnamon Bark and Goldthistle. Rest up before the fight at the campfire. You can spot the cave entrance with the help of a large pair of dead trees lying in a cross pattern. Medusa will be in a dimly lit room with pillars around the area. Be sure to have lightning wielders in your squad as the boss is weak to lightning.

Avoid their attacks and move behind Medusa. Deal enough damage and they will fall down, giving you an opening to strike. With slash attacks, cut their head off (R2 or RT on a controller to grab) while their health bar is close to maximum health (first or second health bar) as this gives you the highest odds of getting a preserved Medusa head. Use Stamina items to keep up your damage output. In a couple of hits, you will defeat them and you’ll be able to pick up the preserved Medusa head. If you use ranged attacks at its head, you will only get the withered Medusa head which isn’t as useful.

Rewards for defeating Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The main reward here is the preserved Medusa head. To check if you’ve done it right, here’s the in-game description of the correct item: “The severed head of a medusa. Cut from the beast at the height of its strength, its petrifying glare is nigh as potent as if it yet lived.” You can also get the Granite Medusa Bone material and the Medusan Spellbow from its corpse. The latter is pretty powerful for an Archer and grants an XP boost as well. Look for a chest nearby to get the Hood of Nonentity. And since you’re in the area, you can unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation nearby.

How to use the preserved Medusa head in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Head to your inventory, select the item, and press Equip. You can then ‘Brandish’ the preserved Medusa head to aim it at an enemy and petrify them. This works on larger bosses as well. Just remember that the preserved Medusa head rots with time.

You can use the preserved Medusa head only for a limited time

If there’s any particular enemy you find hard to beat, try using a Medusa head to turn them into stone. Note that there’s no confirmation that it works on every single enemy in the game.

How to petrify Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

After you slay Medusa, she will respawn in four days. While you can rest at an inn to pass the time, this will decay the preserved Medusa head you have. To prevent this, place the preserved Medusa head into storage at an inn like the Pilgrim’s Inn in Bakbattahl. Try not to rest on the way and use a Ferrystone if you have one to reach there instantly without worrying about the passage of time.

Once you’ve kept the preserved head safely in storage, rest on the bench for four days. Now head back to Medusa’s lair where they’ll be waiting for you. Equip the preserved Medusa head, select ‘Brandish’ and aim it at the monster. This will petrify Medusa, giving you a special Eye for an Eye achievement.

That covers how to defeat Medusa and get a preserved Medusa head in Dragon’s Dogma 2. A decayed Medusa head can be found in the B1F Vernworth Castle Vault but it doesn’t have the petrifying ability. And a key from the Ancient Battlegrounds at Battahl will let you find the Daughter of the Evening shield that can reflect Medusa’s petrifying gaze.
