Aside from a potential assassination attempt, having a sneaky assassin trailing you’re every more won’t affect your time in Vernworth all that much. But, the pull of a mystery to unravel is strong enough that you’ll want to get to the bottom of Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Arisen’s Shadow quest. We’ll walk you through how to make contact with your pursuer, likely the hurdle that’s preventing you from progressing the quest.

The Arisen’s Shadow walkthrough in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The Arisen’s Shadow is a quest you’ll get once you start working on Captain’s Brant tasks in Vernworth. You’ll have to survive an assassination attempt and catch the culprit to finish the quest. But, for a couple of us here at VG, the assassination attempt never happened.

If that’s the case for you, not to worry; before long a random NPC sporting a brown outfit with a hood will stalking you. Your pawns may say something like “I sense eyes upon us” when he’s near, especially in and around the Merchant Quarter square.

If you turn towards him, he’ll begin running. Chase him down at full speed as your Stamina doesn’t drain inside cities. Catch up and press Grab (R2 or RT on a controller) to drop him to the floor. After a brief chat, it turns out the NPC goes by Bermudo and tells you that he’s been keeping an eye on you.

All Bermudo choices in The Arisen’s Shadow quest in DD2

You can choose to let him go for a tidy bribe of 5,000 Gold or refuse compensation. Choosing the refuse triggers a fight with Bermudo. Their Thief-style attacks should be easy to beat. Before long, Captain Brant will show up to arrest Bermudo and ask you to check back at the Stardrop Inn in a few days. Either rest on a bench to pass the time quickly or go about your tasks and side quests.

âś“ Tip

Wait for Captain Brant to show up during the assassin fight

Try not to beat them too quickly as this may botch the quest. Wait for Captain Brant to appear.

Before long, Captain Brant will show to arrest Bermudo and ask you to check back at the Stardrop Inn in a few days. Either rest on a bench to pass the time quickly or go about your tasks and side quests. Return to Brant at the Tavern at nighttime and he’ll explain that the captured agent (now in the Gaol) was from Battahl. After learning of the interrogation’s results, you will get 4,000 Gold and 1000 XP.

How to fix the Arisen’s Shadow Bermudo bug in Dragon’s Dogma 2

If you’re at a high level while fighting this would-be assassin, there’s a good chance you’ll kill Bermudo before Captain Brant stops the fight. Try to keep the fight going without attacking and by chaining healing spells and defensive tactics until he arrives. But if Bermudo dies, you can still finish the quest.

Use a Wakestone to revive Bermudo. You can even carry his corpse into the tavern and revive him in front of Captain Brant to speed up the quest. While this can seem costly, you can use the Dragon’s Gaze in Dragon’s Dogma 2 to collect Wakestone shards.

If you kill Bermudo and leave the area, his body will disappear. You’ll then have to visit the Vermund Charnel House to find Bermudo’s body. It’ll cost 5,000 Gold to check if the body is in the morgue. Revive Bermudo to continue the quest.

That covers the Arisen’s Shadow quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Fortunately, this main quest isn’t essential to the game and you can progress even with the bug. For more on the game, read up on how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Ornate Box.
